IMO, that's insane.

It points up the difference between "ability to pull" and "ability to safely control in an emergency". There is a world of difference between those two.

You're preaching to the chior here. I have a 3500. ;)
Ford's site. They list the F-150 as having a GCWR of 16700 for a 4X2 and 17000 for a 4x4 with those engines too.

I just looked at those trailers moments ago when I run across them on Craigs List. From what I can tell, they look like pretty good trailers. I have been looking at trailers for a while and have about decided I need something at least 20' and have been torn between the 10K and 12K trailers. I have pulled my tractor and a implement on a 7K 16' trailer for 10-15 miles and it is a little overloaded. A 10K would probably do, but was considering the 12K for a little more capacity. I also noticed in the pictures that there appeared to be a similar trailer beside it with the pipe rail sides. Thought that may also be worth considering to be able haul different loads easier. One other thought is the kicker ramps. I know they will be much easier to use than the stow away type, but also am afraid they may prevent a longer load, such as with a rotatry cutter on, from being able to hang off the back.

What I really need is, is like one of the dozen trucks that Dpilot has. lol

I am down to 3. Might be down to 2 after the first of the year.

If your truck can handle it I would go 12K. Not much more money or weight usually.

Just give me that F-250. Its a win-win. You'll be down to two trucks. And nobody can tell me my truck isn't big enough anymore. :D

That is the one I am thinking of parting with. It has 68,000 miles and has not been in the shop a day. Its been worked hard and chipped since 5,000 miles. It has averaged 17 mpg for its life. It could use tires again but other than that has been trouble free.

Kid down the road wants it bad. His father and him came over Friday and made me a offer I can not refuse so it will probably be his by Christmas.

I will keep the Titan, F-350, and Saturn for now.

Bama67,
1) Trailer price seems very good. A trailer like that one at that price cannot be bought here in the northeast. Here that would be used price.
2) A 4 hour ride isn't too bad to save money. I travelled 5 hours each way to save $1500 on a tilt bed trailer I bought.
3) As others said, get the spare wheel and tire and brakes on both axles. The price is reasonable.
4) An F150 will tow your load however, handling and stopping will take a toll eventually due to lighter suspension and braking capabilities of the 150.

I'll throw my 2 cents in even though my opinion isn't worth that much.
Nice overall trailer but...... I like rub rails and "D" rings for tie down options. This trailer only has a few pockets. All mfg seem to put on pockets but leave off the more important stuff you need. Next the ramps were left blunt. Why didn't they weld a 10cent piece of angle on the ends to soften the entry.
Next I think the best coupler currently offered is the bolt on cast auto engage coupler that mounts in a vertical channel. Fabricated fenders are much stronger than the stamped ones. Tires had better be Load "E" rated especially since its on 15" rims. I don't see springs for the ramps, are they heavy? All of these options I mentioned wouldn't add 250.00 to the price and you might end up adding anyhow.
I have seen seveal times people by trailers on price and haul them down to the local fab shop to get them outfitted like they need and end up spending way more than if they had just ordered it complete from the factory.

I was thinking about how nice rub rails are too. Spring loaded ramps, yep. Don't think I've seen or used that type of coupler before. Not a huge fan of d-rings on the sides. A piece of 2 1/4" ID tubing welded vertically or a large d-ring welded to the front center of the deck area would make a nice winch holder.

I've seen and used many types of trailer couplers since the late 40's used in private, farm, commercial, and military applications but I don't remember a bolt on cast auto engage coupler that mounts in a vertical channel. Could you post the manufacturer of that coupler.

I agree that most trailer users wind up modifying their trailer or having it modified for their particular use. I paid twice the selling price of the original trailer shown above for a PJ Trailer that had four16x6" White Spoke 8 Lug Steel Wheels with 4 ST235/80R16Radial Tubeless "E" Rated Tires, Heavier Axles mounted on four Slipper Springs, Four 12"x2" Brakes, Bull Dog Square Tube 7,000 lb Side Wind Tongue Jack, 2-5/16" Bulldog Collar-Lok Ball Coupler, with a GVWR of 13,384 lbs that I registered as a 12,500 Lbs trailer. I bought that trailer in 2006 and have towed it over 45,000 miles and it tows and tracks better than I ever expected.

I then welded on additional D-Rings, Winch Mount, and much more and every time I use it I think of additional upgrades.
