Jason,

I appreciate you chiming in here. I realize as a dealer it sometimes seems (and often IS) better to stay out of these discussions.
I agree with you. Some dealers will in fact take very little interest in anything except selling all they can for all the profit possible. However, overall, I have found most tractor dealers to be very helpful. In the end, I may not agree to their advice - either by ignorance on my part, or them not understanding I really don't need what they recommend - but that is always my choice. No one forces me to take their advice or buy their equipment! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I have had dealers that want to sell me what is on the lot rather than the exact tractor I am interested in. But even that could be to my benefit if the tractor is an upgrade and the deal is good enough. I don't take offense just because they recommend an upgrade. I also want the best price, but recognize these are real people with real bills to pay just like me. I don't expect them to barely break even and there is much more to real cost of the tractor than just the dealer invoice vs selling price! Let's face it - the guy who only wants to give you 10% over cost isn't likely to be any nicer to you the next time he walks in the door - he will probably never want you to make any money!
I run a business and recently had a situation with one of those customers that just couldn't be satisfied. I remained calm and tried hard to satisfy him, but in the end told him he probably should trade elsewhere. It happens.

So now the dealers aren't allowed to make any profit? I guess 10.8% is not getting taken. Of course if the dealer sold you your tractor for 10.8% over cost then I guess he took you. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Otherwise how coult he stay in business.

)</font></font>

Where did you see me say I didnt think the dealer should make a profit!! BUT..if its MY MONEY...I'd prefer he make as little profit as possible...but from your statement..I'll have to assume you dont feel the same way?? Is that idea run thru every purchase you might make??

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( I think someone needs to point out that depending on the box blade $1000 quote may not be a bad price at all. Certain people think that all sales people are automatically out to get them and I will tell you that is just not the case. We carry 4 lines of box blades and if this customer came in and explained that his primary purpose for the tractor was to maintain a long road I would not recommend a $300 box blade but something much more substantial. Like a Woods commercial series that run up above $1000. And yes it is a manual box blade. I have seen many people make huge mistakes and investing thousands of dollars in equipment that just does not meet thier needs because they automatically think all "salesmen" are liars and everything else. Come in with an open mind. Ask the salesmen why they are recommending certain items. Many times the best dealer to work with is one that wants to ask questions and help you find the equipment that will accomplish the task you have rather than one that just throws a price at you when you say I want a 30hp tractor. We always ask what will you be doing with it and try to help the customer get the right equipment. After all unlike a car most of the people purchasing a tractor will have it for 20 - 30 years. Sully you probably won't belive a word of this and that is fine; I just felt that someone needed to let the stumpfield know that many boxblades are well over $1000 and he is not automatically getting screwed because of the price. )</font>

And I never said he WAS getting screwed as you put it. I mentioned that ,,,"for his useage" he MIGHT get by with a cheaper box blade. Maybe he cant get by with a cheaper one..thats for he..and his salesman to sit down..discuss and determine. The genteman is "concerned" about the total bill on the rig...and maybe..or maybe not??...he might be able to do everythig with "less". But I agree 100% with what you say...and thats the basis for the purchase that I personally made...INSTEAD OF a "BX" series Kubota.

Well you seem to be deciding how much a dealer can make. 10.8% is ok (what you paid). 16 or 20 is to high. I'm sure somebody somewhere paid 8% over and think you got ripped.

I just don't think you get all the variables involved here. Why do you think the prices are different in different parts of the country. A dealer who sells on volume should be able to offer less than one that sells a couple tractors a month. Same if he is the only dealer for 100 miles out in the sticks somewhere.

If you want to pick at the dealer and Kubota, I'd start with spare parts. That's where you have to drop your drawers before you go into the dealer. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
