What do you think of this kind of building?

We have one without sides that is 7-10 years old. Its held up well so far. IIRC, the tubes on it are ~12 gauge.

One of my neighbors has several of those.

I can say there are no problems, here at least, with weathering or rust. They look as good as the day they were built.

The exception is the longest one. Some high winds got underneath it and bent the upright parts. They fixed it with some 6x6 poles on the outside but it will never be the same as new.

I don't think they are any match for a real pole barn.

I went to the Elephant Building site in the link. Using the design your building process, I was up to $15K for a 24x40 building with no doors or windows. I don't see the value for that size building, plus snow loads weren't mentioned. The options don't allow strengthening the building such as more or heavier frames, thicker skins, etc.

My though was to weld up my own frame and then put the tin on, my self, no kit.

 Always nice to see the silver lining.

Yep, I thought it was an unspoken bonus. I'm all for lowering taxes.

We have a carport, similar construction to what you have posted. I got it off ebay from a company in NC. They had it built in about an hour. Its 5 years old and still in great shape. I will eventually pull up the ground pegs and make it into a sawmill shed once I put sides on it, and we save for the garage, or I will use it down near our fire pit/bbq/pizza oven area and put screening around the sides to keep out the skeeters. Up to the wife at this point :) Being that its movable no tax on it since its considered temporary.

Moveable buildings are also not taxable in my county.

A friend of mine has had one for years. He keeps his boat and atv in it. It has stood up well, but he is not a fan of the cannister door.

Get some metal studs and frame it up. Double up the studs. Order the metal sheathing cut to length.:)

This type of shed construction is common here in Australia, so much so people are now building houses with the technique. I recently put one up on a 10.5mx10.5m concrete slab and it'll never move or fall down. Whacking it with my caravan is a whole other story. Temperature wise they can be a problem but here we generally put vents in the top to let the heat out. Obviously there is not much of a snow issue here but year before last we for a full 2cm and it withstood that without issue :)
