A second drum is a great idea. They're cheap enough that I could get away with it, too. That way no lugging 500lb+ containers.

Do you put the drums on a pallet or something to keep them from direct contact with the concrete to prevent rust?

I just bought me a "tote" (sq plastic 275 gal container, with a metal surround cage) that landscapers use for water, commercial shippers use for soap, and non-toxic liquids. Got 2 on CL for $70 each. Bought an elec submersible fuel pump ($18) that pumps 5 gal in 1-2 minutes. Bought some vinyl hose on ebay, and voila ! my own diesel service station. Tapped into the 12v pigtail on the rear of the tractor, and do a quick connect for the pump when needed.

Ag distribution center will deliver 100 gal diesel for same price as off road at a local gas station.

Can't use the tote for gasoline. Only diesel. P1010526.JPG

I found a 30 gallon fuel tote at a garage sale, my problem was my little tractor used fuel so slowly that it wasn't worth hauling it to the gas station to refill it, but if it wasn't kept full it would collect water. In the end it was easier to just use a 5 gallon can.

Picked up 2 drums for $40 and a $34 hand crank from harbor freight. Going to be parking them on a skid in the garage. One for the trailer and fill, one to siphon into when the trailer drum is full.

I had a 4'x8' sheet of 1/8" steel diamond plate around, so I cut out the size fuel tank I wanted and welded it up.

It holds 73 gallons... (when I use it)

WOW! $70 bucks each! I have them given to me, and sometimes turn them down because I don't feel like hauling them home!

Plastic barrel, HF hand pump. If you are careful and don't over fill tractor, i.e. spill fuel. There is no diesel odor. Mine is in my shop and on a HF large furniture mover that rolls out of the way.

I picked up two of these, 330 gallon, for emergency water supply. Filled them 3 years ago, then one recently developed a leak. Why I don't know - they're completely isolated from everything, inside of a metal storage building.

I tried to find the leak but was unsuccessful, by installing a tubeless tire valve in one of the lids, then pressuring it up to 80psi. It surprisingly held the air pressure. But for sure, with it full of water for an extended length of time, it definitely DID leak. It leaked about 100 gallons of water inside of a month.

The point is though, before you fill it with diesel you'd do well to either partially fill it and wait to be sure it did not leak.

I inherited my father's 50 gallon transfer tank with electric pump. No more fuel than I use I lately have been filling up 5 gallon gas cans and using a portable electric pump I picked up off eBay. Works fine so far.
