What do you use for a whole house water filter?

Our well water turned from basic to acidic while we've been living here. Have copper pipes; so, it cannot be acidic. Put in a lime bed, approximately 10" OD by 4.5' to 5' tall. It now acts as our filter for little bit of trash that comes in. Before, we had a whole house filter like Lowes and Home Depot sell.

I wished that there was something a little finer than 5 micron, like a 3. 1 micron strips just about all the character out. I've seen the big canisters with some loose media when I looked before that gets changed after 5 or ten years. Thanks for the thoughts. Good stuff to sit down with the war department and hash out...

They make 1 micron filters and filter bags.
