What does a bale of straw go for in your area?

We had a lot of dry weather here and people lost their pastures. The big round bales last summer were going for about $65 each. If someone had trucked and bunch in and I'm sure people did, they could have made a killing down here.
There are so many round bales around south central KY that you could find them for 15 bucks this past winter. Even now, I see large quantities on hand. Far cry from two years ago.

Straw has really gotten expensive in the last five or ten years in many areas due to the demand for it. I heard one story about a large horse operation that uses straw for bedding. The operators then shred/compost the straw/manure and sell it for gardening/yard useage. Now that is thinking!

Around $8-9 a bale last time I bought some, I think (Brattleboro VT Agway). But that's for 60-80 lb compressed bales, 1.5 times as much per bale. Don't much like them. The extra weight wouldn't be a problem but they're compressed with 5 or 6 strips of banding, which is squeezed so tight you can't get your fingers in behind them to lift them. No handles on the things!

$2 to $2.50 per bale, southern Michigan. Buy from a local farmer who operates on the honor system.

I think I'm gonna have to go give my guy a hug. $1.50 here, nice clean, bright wheat straw in big (60 lbs) wire tied squares. And no, I'm not telling who.

It is worth more left in the field.

$2.00 to $3.00 for a small square, $25 to $30 for a 4x5 round (wheat or oat, makes no difference).

Hay is often the exact same price.

Normally about $1 for a small square or $10-15 for a round !
It has far more value worked into the land or burned .

I hired some guys to work for me for a couple of days and they were telling me that if you bale hay and sit on it that come winter you can sell it for about $8 a bale. I'm wondering what you guys think? If I could get that kind of money I might be willing to plow up my field and start growing hay.
