Contrary to popular belief, some people have never learned much about anything mechanical. It's a good way to get someone to remember which way things turn who's never done it before.

I learned it in aircraft mechanic school in the military way back in 1969. Don't use it often, but its still useful when talking to non mechanics. I even hear it at my local auto shop when they tell people how to do some simple task that they don't have time for.

A harmless rhyme for children ... doesn't mean anybody saying it is stupid. It may mean that they are speaking those uneducated in basic fastener use.
