What does your dog think of your driving?

Yes, bird. I've hauled dogs in the truck bed, and I've ridden in the truck bed, more miles than I can count. I've also had dogs loose in the cab. I just decided that they will be in crates, after some of the things I have seen, and stories I have heard from those traveling on the show circuit. Just as holding a child in one's lap, means the child will be the first one through the windshield, it can be the same with dogs.

I don't condemn animals loose in the vehicle, I just finally decided that mine would not be. My current two are the first to have to abide by that rule. I do not approve of dogs riding loose in the bed of a truck. It is one thing riding on one's land and in the pastures. Another altogether to be out on the roads like that. If it isn't safe for a child, why would it be safe for a critter, in the event of an accident?

Many years ago, before seat belts and child seats were required, I don't know how many women I stopped when I saw them driving with a small child siting or standing in their lap. I'd politely explain what would happen to the child if they had an accident. But if they'd told me it was none of my business, there wouldn't have been a thing I could have done about it in those days.

I think I began "driving" sitting in my dad's lap. I was about 4-5, and he'd work the clutch and gas pedals, (that I could not reach), and I'd steer and shift. Those cars didn't even HAVE seat belts. There also weren't as many cars on the road, that could create as much havoc in that place and time.

Yeah, there was probably a lot of difference in the speed you were going as well as the traffic compared to Dallas freeways.

Well the car only had 36HP! It took a bit to get up to highway speeds. But no, we weren't in Dallas, at the time!

When our inside dog sees me pick up my keys, she goes crazy. She loves to ride in the truck. I don't always take her, and when I don't, she lays down and whines like a Baby.

now that's a very smart dog Bird.
Sseelhoff's JRT, not quite so smart...but I'm sure equally lovable.

But it was highly entertaining, as he followed those wipers back and forth with his feet up on the dashboard.

this little gem came in today and I just had to share.
The eyes tell it all...
Thanks for posting that; as Sysop says, it is indeed a classic!

.....Our last JRT also loved the car, but you could not take him on rainy days. He would try to attack the windshield wipers through the windshield. He would see that movement and go beserk.
Same with my GSD Mickey (R.I.P.); he loved to ride in the truck with me but would also go into attack mode whenever I had to use the wipers...really slimed up the windshield trying to get to them! He also wanted to sit in my lap whenever we drove anywhere and what with him weighing 125 pounds , well you can picture what that was like. :D I had to tie his leash off to the passenger's head rest to keep him over on his side of the seat.

Here's an odd one.

I put my cat in every night because of coyotes, fisher cats, etc.. When he tries to hide and stay out too late for his own good, I take one of the tractors out with the lights on and just drive around the fields/ trails for a bit and he eventually pops up and follows it home.

He follows it during the daytime time as well. He always wants to see what I'm doing. He keeps his distance when the engine is running though thankfully. But when I turn it off and to go do something else, he frequently jumps on the drivers seat and lounges. Most dog-like cat I ever had.

I think he thinks I have some kind of a sentient cow/ horse robot pet from outer space.

Tractor=Food for him as well. When he wants a snack, he'll find it (me) to let me know.
