Although they work, I'm not a big fan of the freeze plug type block heaters. I wouldn't even think about removing an injection pump to gain access to a freeze plug, if that was the case
The L3800 is an easy one, the heater goes on the left side near the bottom of the block, nothing in the way.

about using starting fluid which he said Don't use it.

Ether alone is bad enough. Ether with intake manifold grid heaters or glow plugs is worse.
Winter diesel should not gell. Only additive required with winter diesel or kerosene is an Isopropyl alcohol water remover.

My l235 starts okay in 20* degree weather but say at 1 or 5* degrees it requires a jump pretty good for a 30yr old tractor here's how to view a video go to you tube and then type in 1983 kubota l235 cold start and the video should appear it's the only l235 cold start on YouTube that I'm aware of so you can't miss it

Why not use a block heater?

This tractor has no block heater because it's so old only glo plugs so a battery charger is neccesary for really really cold starts

Can't give a "cold" starting report down here on the edge of Fl Everglades, coldest its been in a while and just for a day or two was 49 at coldest part of day. However can tell you I can run my 2007 L3400DT in dead heat of summer pulling/powering 6' BH and temp gauge never goes over half way point.

When the scraper was wanted to clean up after the snow , the Mitsu K4f-D would not light up in the 10 degree temps. Generous use of the heater plugs got some white smoke flowing, but it was a no go in the run now catagory. The battery lost it's oomph!

An hour at 6 amps on the battery charger (seems like not a lot) AND the application of the heatMaster hot air gun blowing into the air cleaner and the darn thing lit off in less than 30 seconds.

The battery charger and the heat gun into the intake are my "go to" systems now ;-)

ps the Fordson Major (gas) started up today in 40 degree temps on the second engine revolution after sitting since fall. ;-)

Boy, Will that machine push ice!

cheers from the Green Mountain boys
