Ok, you got me going! What is the Falcon XR8? I know a tiney bit about the GTHO and that, that we've talked about... But XR8? Is it newer?

No problem, 1971 HEMI Challenger, pistol grip four speed, ragtop, with rallye wheels./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Oh, the Hemi. Now you are talking. Although the 413 with cross ram was rated at 412 HP and realistically had around 500 I believe.

Remember the song;

It happened on the strip where the road is wide
two cool sharks standing side by side
A fuel injected sting ray and a 413
revving up their engines and they sound real mean

Tach it up , Tach it up, Buddy gonna shut you down!

Beach boys I thing....great song!

Looking back to what they did then, and then thinking about the tire technology we have now... Imagine the fun now with all the traction you could get!

and think of all the lawsuits if the big three advertised that a car was built for drag racing!

Man I love the net. Did a quick search and came up with the;

6. "Shut Down"
Time: 1:49 Irving Music, Inc. BMI
Master #39180 Recorded 1/31/63
Single Released 3/4/63 (Capitol 4932)
Charted 4/27/63 Reached #23
B-Side with "Surfin' U.S.A."
Brian Wilson/Roger Christian

Tach it up, tach it up
Buddy gonna shut you down

It happened on the strip where the road is wide
(Oooo rev it up now)
Two cool shorts standin' side by side
(Oooo rev it up now)
Yeah, my fuel injected Stingray and a four-thirteen
(Oooo rev it up now)
Revvin' up our engines and it sounds real mean
(Oooo rev it up now)

Tach it up, tach it up, tach it up
Buddy gonna shut you down

Declinin' numbers at an even rate
(Oooo movin' out now)
At the count of one we both accelerate
(Oooo movin' out now)
My Stingray is light the slicks are startin' to spin
(Oooo movin' out now)
But the four-thirteen's really diggin' in
(Oooo movin' out now)

Gotta be cool now power shift here we go

Superstock Dodge is windin' out in low
But my fuel injected Stingray's really startin' to go
To get the traction I'm ridin' the clutch
My pressure plate's burnin' that machineÕs too much

Pedal's to the floor hear the dual quads drink
(Oooo pump it up now)
And now the four-thirteen's lead is startin' to shrink
(Oooo pump it up now)
He's hot with ram induction but it's understood
(Oooo pump it up now)
I got a fuel injected engine sittin' under my hood
(Oooo pump it up now)

Shut it off, shut it off buddy now I shut you down
Shut it off, shut it off buddy now I shut you down
Shut it off, shut it off buddy now I shut you down
Shut it off, shut it off buddy now I shut you down
Shut it off, shut it off buddy now I shut you down

What you drive is half the trip Kelvin /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif! In the era of real muscle cars, the big block Mopars ruled until the Hemi was dropped due to emision requirements. Fords and GM's for the most part had to be modified to beat them. That is not meant to start an arguement, because some limited production models of different brands such as the Boss 429 semi-hemi were very fast indeed. My track and dealership experience showed if nothing else, Mopars were FASTER out of the box with no mods. As far as function goes, if I had thought that way in the 60's, I would be an expert on Volkswagen. Not much fun, and cold in the winter. But very functional and economical/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif.

Dodge has the Viper, I think GTR, That is a race only, not legal for street machine.

The SCCA A-Sedan folks get "bodies in white" from GM. Those though, are just the body/unibody, with the white pre-primer sealer. They are bare bones; you have to add everything to them to make a race car.

I have always wondered about that song- there's no way a fuel injected stingray is going to beat that 413 , especially on top end!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I don't know, remember how much of a weight advantage the Vettes have. I have the '65 Big Block which is the same year the fuelie took a dive. My car is supposed to go 0 - 60 in under 5 seconds and the fuelie was pretty close to that. Of course that depends on gearing....mine goes 4000 rpm at about 70 mph with a 3.70 gear. I figure it would go about 120 or so before red lining. Never tried it though, I got it up to 100 once and the front end gets all light and scary....makes you wonder how they did it on bias plys/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I'm a huge Chrysler fan but I'm bettin' this is the view that 413 would see of my Vette.

Nice Shot Jeff. I don't know about the guy's view in a 413, but that would certainly be a Camry driver's perspective.

However, I would compete with you in only one area. Range in miles on one tank of fuel. So far, I've gone over 550 miles on a tank. Maybe could've gone further, but I didn't feel like walking that day.

How far will your '65 go on a tank?

Regardless, let's just say you probably have more smiles per gallon than I /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

That has got to be one of my favorite songs of all time, I have been singing it since as far back as I can remember. I am not so sure that there was such a weight advantage, were'nt those superstock dodges bare bones street race cars: you could'nt even get a radio, they came with van seats, the whole front end was aluminum. I am not positive, or ,am from that era but I think they were also called MAX WEDGE cars. Man I missed all the good stuff, I found it hard to get excited about the 80's cars./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

/ What else you wish you drove #56
There were cars available that were just that; factory race cars. Most were not street legal, but were ready for the drag strip. Aluminum bumpers, fenders, and rims. No heater, back seat, , radio, nor any window crank assemblies.

Chevy did it too. SS409 and 427 aluminum front end Impala's were out there... I don't know if Ford had any similar offerings.

You could still get a race Barracuda Hemi car by '69...

I can't tell you how many peoply have asked me that question. Truth is it has never occured to me to check the gas mileage on either of my cars. I just make sure they're full!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif What I can tell you is that if you look down the throat of the carb and goose it hard....it looks like four VERY large squirt guns having a Texas showdown.

I didn't know the Super Stock Dodge was their race offering. Sure would like to know if that is true. Corvette had the L88 which came out in '67. The engine was supposed to have somewhere close to 600 hp at the flywheel. It was available to the general public but in an effort to discourage them from buying them they intentionally rated it at 10 hp lower than the 427 ci 435 hp car with the tri power set up. It was also not available with a heater or radio. There weren't very many built that first year and I have heard sales prices in the 1 million dollar area for an excellent example....amazing!
