Question for all of you on the board: When you buy a John Deere tractor, is it really the product you are buying to meet a need, or the feeling you get from using the product that makes you buy it? Interested in your thoughts...

I grew up on a farm with all JD so that factored in...but I did look long and hard at Kubota, NH and Massey before buying the JD.

For me, the tractor needed to hold long term value for me as it was going to be around for a long while.

Any of the tractors would have met my needs - the JD just met my needs best.

For me, it was prior experience with a JD product. I have had a JD185 lawn tractor for over 20 years that has never skipped a beat. No mechanical failures, never failed to start due to a mechanical problem and has always done everything I've asked of it. I'm not saying that experience would necessarily translate directly to a new compact tractor, but it sure gave me confidence in the purchase.

I also feel like JD products in general are well designed and constructed.

Finally, I felt the JD dealer network was good.

I started out with Ford tractors and a NH baler in the mid 70's with two dealers within 40 miles. One dealer bought the other and then went under. The closest dealers are now JD. I started buying as used 1207 MoCo and developed trust in the recommendations of the owner. I have since bought 3 tractors, a gyro rake, a disc mower and misc attachments. He knew my ooperation and gave good advice. Of course now he has sold out so the process starts again.

Deere dealer is closest to me and has always been in the same locations for as long as i can remember. that gives me the security that they arent going anywhere anytime soon. i have a good relationship with my dealership as the owner has known me for years and the parts guy knows me really well too. avalibilty of parts is second to none, and that is EXTREMLEY important when in the farming business. pirce has also been a big factor. shocking to some people, but when i compared apples to apples JD had the best price believe it or not. i have shopped other makes of tractors, but the dealers seem to kill my business more then anything, not the product.

I grew up in farm country working summers doing custom work. Drove McCormick Farmall C, H, M, SuperM w/TA and Internation Harvester 686, 806 and 1206 tractors doing one job or another. Then enlisted in the Air Force and never touched another tractor until I bought my John Deere 2520 this year.

I bought the 2520 for specific jobs, comparing and contrasting different manufacturers and products within the context of my needs, and, so far, couldn't be happier with the product or dealer support.

I generally like my local JD dealer and had previously bought my JD LT180 mower and lots of Stihl stuff there. I don't like the pedal configuration on many Kubotas and I had rented them to try. The 2320 was the right fit for my woodsy property with max loader capacity for the size and a full cat 1 capacity. The fact that Deere is an American company and my dad grew up on a farm (he's jealous) helped as well. As I've said else-where though, I hate having to deal with my JD dealer for aftermarket "whole goods". Such a PIA. Really, that system needs to change. Just add these things to the JD Parts system and make our lives easier please.

Got some old JD 2 cylinders and garden tractors. They're well built plus there are more JD dealers in my area than other makes.

I have had good prior experience with John Deere and have always though they were the best. I looked at Kubota, Massey, and all the other brands before buying but I always came back to Deere. Also my tractor was purchased from the same dealer I bought a Gator 6x4 from in 03', as I was very pleased with them and wanted to give them more business. I only like to deal with the local dealer for parts, not purchases.
