In my case, I purchased a 5425 based on the tractor's specs, ergonomics, and powerplant. Once I had narrowed down what I wanted, I then went to the dealers. My local dealer treated me as a valued customer and worked hard to earn my business. I still think of him more as a friend than a salesman.

For over 25 years our farm has run nothing but Kubotas. We've been happy with the tractors, but dealer support has been hit or miss. When it came time to buy a new, bigger tractor, the John Deere was the best fit for us.

Now that I own one... I get the warm and fuzzies everytime I clamber up into that cab. I really do love the 5425's cab.

I had narrowed the orange product line to one that was the best fit to our needs and went to a dealer that had both orange and green. I drove the orange machine around the lot as my wife watched, not a bad tractor.

Then the salesman suggested I try the 3320 e-hydro parked nearby. Now that was a slick machine compared to the orange. We finally got my wife to drive it around and she did not want to get off. Sitting on the machine, she announced that she would pay half if I got the 3320 (yes she has her own cash stash). So in the end it was a pretty easy decision.

My Dad drove Ford pickups so I drive Ford pickups. He had Molines and an Oliver when I was a kid. There's no new Olivers and Molines around so I went to JD tractors because the LT 133 rider I bought proved to be such a hardy machine. I own JD power tools now as well and with my propensity to tear things up occasionally, have not been disappointed with JD parts support. Plus I bought a bunch of brown JD muscle shirts at JC Penny.:D

*That wasn't a buying decision it was bribrey.

Because "Orange" is just too darn ugly--------reminds me of Clemson!

Just kidding. We have two Kubota RTV's and a Kubota BX 22. So (despite the Clemson connection) we are prone to buy Kubota. But in the end, I went green because of the cab. It seemed nicer, quieter and better built. I also liked the general layout of the JD over the competition. This combined with parts availability and local service tilted things toward green.

Sales and support. I went and looked at several different brands; orange, red, blue and green because I was a total newbie. Orange was we don't have to dicker we sell 200 tractors a year, red was okay but expensive, blue was a no show (no sales staff) when I went to their store (twice), second time was with an appointment. JD (Ragan Equipment in Idaho); the salesman literally spent hours going over what I should look for and what was important if it was not included. Also liked the ergonomics better than most of the others.

This will be the place I check with first if we outgrow our current tractor or when we get an ATV.

I still go there first when looking for attachments and we are still treated very well.

When I was growing up we had a 1942 Farmall Model "A". Every time my grand dad had to do something that we couldn't on his tractor, he always called the neighbor with the JD (I don't know the model no, but it was a 2 cylinder). It always seemed to work flawlessly, so the reputation of the dependability is what sold me. Ijust had to figure out the HP I wanted or thought I needed. I have not regretted my decision.

I farm, we had a few red pieces of iron I grew up with - neighbors have other galvanized products - but Deere quickly dominated the area in the 80's. I know for a fact it is the dealer and the exceptional service they provide that keeps me green. I write on the surveys Deere sends out "Sloans plus Deere = excellence". If they sold red or yellow, we would be red or yellow. It is that simple.

They build a nice tractor. They are higher priced on attachments though. I like the way they show the 4110 ( the model I bought ) in the brochure with 2 fender handles and when the tractor comes it has one. Dealer solution buy the additional one for 35 bucks. Little things like this get my attention. A year later when it came time to replace my loader tractor I went with New Holland ( TC 55 DA ) . No surprises... came like the picture and love the shuttle. If the dealer would have been more supportive it might have been green. It seems once they sell they don't care about follow up or explaining their " better idea " on why green is better quality and the preferred choice. It didn't help when they didn't do the service agreed on at time of sale also.
