Oil & Fuel What engine oil for Massey Ferguson 590

Hello all,

We have graduated from the all too small and underpowered Iskeki tractor that we had and bought an old Massey Ferguson 590 series 4WD tractor. I bought the service manual for it, but can not find anywhere the specification for the engine oil it needs. I have also done a Google search but get conflicting results. As this old girl is in desperate need of some TLC I would like to get her sorted as soon as I can and have ordered a new oil filter but now want to get the correct oil.

A good 10/30 or 10/40 oil would do nicely.

I will raptorterry - as Pirtek sell 20L barrels of 10W30, I shall get some from them.

Be sure it's a oil for diesel engines, suppose almost all are but it doesn't hurt to check it before buying.

Just to let everyone know, I ended up with a 25L barrel from my mechanic so I know it is the right oil for it - also for our horsebox - thank you for your input.

Now I have a problem with the PTO which I shall make a different post about!

Never use domestic engine oil in vehicles with wet clutches. That's why the manufacturers of those vehicles recommend their brand specific oil.

The OP's tractor seems to be an older model with the Perkins engine. They usually aren't picky.
The link to the Perkins brand engine oil seems to be one of the latest releases of a new oil generation. The OP's engine won't need it.
