What equipment to mow a slope with?

A third NO on the DR. I have one and trying to mow the slope on the pond side, its gotten wet a couple of times! I think it would not tend to do so if it was a two-wheel drive, it just wants to go downhill, especially if the ground is a little wet. It'll wear you out trying to keep it straight too. A sickle bar mower with a hydraulic lift is what I want, but not been able to afford one yet.

I own a Steiner 430 with dual wheels with a 60" mower deck (it came with the house), that is a goat. It is too slow for flat areas so I'm looking for a ZTR with a 72" deck for the flatter areas.

Here is the mower with the 9 ft reach and handy for many other mowing projects as well. International #1300 with 9 ft cutter bar. Standard catagory 1 three point hitch. Priced at $1750 + modest shipping. Ken Sweet

Is there a sickle mower that simply rides the terrain and doesn't need a rear hydraulic remote?

Both the 3pt mount and the trailer type will ride the terrain, the cylinder only raises the bar to clear obstacles... the tip and heal down pressure is set via a spring load, that lets the bar follow the ground. KennyV

Thanks. I guess the LTD (local tractor dealer) is conflicted. Now, when Spring returns, I will have something else to consider.

I use a weed trimmer on the steep inside of my dam. Just have to be careful not to lose balance and fall in the pond.

We sell about 150 sickle mowers a year that do just that. The only thing a cylinder is good for, is when a operator has health or back problems and can't lift 40 or so pounds to transport position. Ken Sweet

I use a Zero Turn Tractor (ZTT) to mow my front lawn and mound septic system which are both very steep. So steep when I first started mowing I would only cut up/down, finally got comfortable enough to mow side slope, even though I was hanging on one fender or another. Now I'm pretty used to it and the tractor does great. The extra-wide stance and low CG are perfect for a slope. And, the turning radius is great for getting around all my trees on the septic mounds.
Good luck!
