My spring is kinda set up like that picture, except water out only for the pipe,,round ceramic crock looking thing is set in ground where spring comes out at base of tree,,its about 3 ft dia and maybe 3 ft deep,,its got holes in sides and rock around it,its top is maybe 6 inches below ground line,,with a washtub over it and flat rocks laying over it and spring,,water runs from under tree and into it,all under ground and runs out close to top through a 1 1/2 out let through it cemented in,,than plastic pipe buried carrys it down to,,what else,,a spring box!,,its a cattle watering trough made of cement,,water comes up through bottom of this tank/box by that pipe ,,excess is carryed down from another upward pointing pipe that is 3 ft or so up from the one where water comes in at,than goes down through bottom under ground to a small spring pond.
Now,,what you would need would be an under ground tank of some sort where that concrete box is,a cestern,,than overflow could go right back into your pond. . I've thought about it,,but in spring the water is a little muddy,,would maybe have to work on area where spring is,,but tank would fill up with mud in a few years or less on mine,,,plus its 300 yards or so and down hill from house, but that could be worked out. The muddy part would have to be taken care of someway though,,so,you could just do it one step at a time maybe,,,dig down and find where water comes from and make you a spring box number one out of something, maybe big dia plastic drain line preforated or culvert with holes drilled in sides,,with a 1 1/2 or so outlet near top sealed in someway,,,gravel around,,somekinda top on it to keep out dirt?? than if that all worked out and no muddy water came out when you had a big ran in spring,,than you could go to step two,,,just some thoughts for you,,,thingy
