What feature do you miss most about older push mowers?

This was meant as a joke, right? I haven't used a push mower in 10+ years and I don't miss a dam# thing about it!

I may be way older than you guys but when I read the title I immediately thought back to the reel push mower I had to use as a kid. No motor. Just kid power. They even were sadistic enough to have a grass catcher to put behind those things. Anyone remember those mowers?

I do not miss those things at all.

I remember the reel mowers. We had one when I was growing up. One thing that could be said about them, is that with the blades sharpened correctly, those old reel mowers could really CLIP and CUT the grass fairly well. I remember seeing a few years ago, that they were still being sold. I don't know if this remains true, today. BTW, I don't miss the reel mowers either.

How old are you? 90 years old or something? even my dad had a gas push mower as a kid and he is 65 hahaha:laughing:
I have to admit thinking the title reference a reel mower also. I guess if you had a motor on the mower, you sure as heck wouldn't be pushing it.

Actually in their day, many "reel" mowers were sold that had gas engines and were self propelled! They were excellent for lawns, and did a beautiful job. Today, I use a gas engine powered rotary mower that has to be PUSHED! I use it to cut weeds, not a lawn. A reel mower would not be suitable for this task. For what I use it for, the rotary "push" mower is an excellent tool.

I cannot recall ever seeing a reel mower with an engine unless you count that creation in "The Lawnmower Man" movie.

There were a lot of them down south, when I was a kid in northeastern NC we had several motorized reel mowers in the community. We southerners ain't stupid enough to push mow a big yard in 90/90 weather without an assist!

Toro had an entire high end line of walk-behind gas powered real mowers that were also self propelled... they would give a manicured cut.

Real Mowers also varied... most were 5 blade and then for the perfectionist with putting green type bent grass turf you had the 7 blade...

Can anyone tell I had a Saturday neighborhood mowing business from age 6 to 10? Charged 25 cents a lawn for basic cut back in the 60's

Small suburban lots...

Looking back it was no wonder I had enough lawns to mow to keep me busy every Saturday...

Minimum wage was a $1.30 when I started and then jumped to $1.65.

I see, well we had big country yards that could take more than an hour, the big ones 2+.
