What goes bump in the dark!

Is that a black tail deer? We were looking at the picture and it seemed like it wasn't a whitetail. In NY we only have white and this looks smaller and darker in size.

Do you have a hunting season on Mountain lions? Every once and a while you hear of someone getting mauled by a mountain lion in the news. That's gotta be a 100# cat. I can see why humans loose once in a while. When I go into the mtns around here I'm packing. Got black bear here and I know they go 300-500# and I'm half that. Figure the weapon makes us even. I leave them alone if they leave me alone.
We have a season on bear but the population isn't so big so I figure let them be. Now deer on the other hand. We hit 300,000 a year in season and the pop is still est at over 1M

One of my neighbors told me about a time that he was walking down a dirt road back to his truck when a mountain lion jumped down off a bank onto the road in front of him. The mountain lion stopped and looked at him and he stood there looking at the mountain lion trying to think what his best course of action should be. He didn't think he could out run the cat and he wasn't sure acting aggressive would scare the cat away. For a time the two just stood and looked at each other, then the mountain lion turned and walked off into the woods. My friend said he then started to continue walking back to his truck when a second mountain lion jumped down off the bank and followed the first one into the woods. It was at that moment my friend said he knew the aggressive approach would have been the worst thing he could have done.

If the buck in your truck is the same (or same size) in your first picture, then that puts the cat at an easy 125-130 pounds.

The buck in the cat picture is not the one in my truck.
The one in the truck dressed out at 130 lbs.hanging wt. at the prossesors. Hes going to be jerky, summer sausage, & pepperoni for the winter snacks. Just a mile from my place a friend had 9 bears in his yard this summer, not to mention the cougars (mountain lions) too. By the way I have a cougar tag also so we will see what turns up. I never go in my backyard unarmed.

In my part of PA, what walks behind you at night is usually on 2 legs, wearing jeans, and carrying a knife/gun and bolt cutters while high on meth. I'll gladly take the cat! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yes Joe, we also have the 2 legged wolves here.
So one has to be in condition yellow at all times when traveling in certain parts of the state. or towns.

If I had cougars and bears in my neighborhood then a 9mm would be another piece of clothing to put on in the am before going outside.

Ernie . . . what kind of little blue truck is that you have your deer sitting in? It certainly has short side walls and the bed looks very small too. When I go to the islands in the Carribean I see a lot of really small trucks and would love to bring one home for use around the property. From the rear, your truck looks like a little Diahatsu or similar???
