What happened to...

I was thinking about Dick as well. I recently signed up for the Intergate ISP service and he is the one that had turned me on to it.

Man I hope we weren't too hard on him in all of those 2WD vs. 4WD discussions......

I spoke to Dick and he simply has chosen to leave the forum. I believe he was admonished by a moderator for a religous reference. Personally I was very sorry to hear that as he is a minister. There are many rules that get stretched here every day includeing, those on politics etc. Some times its difficult to seperate the issues we all face in our daily lives from a forum and its rules, especially if asked a direct question. I for one will miss his input. I think its a mighty flippin sore day when we can not make references to our God on a forum or display it on the court house steps. I can only wonder when our motto and all our currency will change. I will be moveing to Canada the very next day !

I don't know if you talk to Dick by phone or if it was here on TBN, but tell him he will be missed. Give him my regards. As far as the term "God" being used here I am sorry our moderators think that. I know Dick is a minister but I don't think he ever pushed his belief's on any one. I could be wrong. Because he is a minister is normal talk probably includes the term, "God". I pulled my children from the public schools because they are not allowed to use the term God so I would have to make the same choice as Dick. I do respect each and every other person here for what they believe.

Thanks for letting us know about Dick. At least we now know that his absence isn't due to a health problem.

I never even knew that Dick was a minister. He certainly never made reference to the fact in any of the posts that he made (at least the ones that I saw).

Obviously we will never know what was involved in having one of the moderators "admonish" Dick for a comment. But it occurs to me that, considering that Dick is a minister and is probably pretty good at turning the other cheek, something pretty seriously happened to get him to quit TBN.

I want to state that I have always been a great supporter of our moderators, and in a number of instances, I have publicly commented about some moderator bashing that got started. They all do a great job! But they can make mistakes too!

So I'm wondering if maybe there isn't some kind of really big communication mistake involved? If this might be the case, I'd hope that at least the moderator involved might privately contact Dick to try to work something out.

I agree with Garry. Even though I don't know exactly what went down, the moderator involved should email Dick and attempt to "bury the hatchet". Maybe everything was just a big misunderstanding, and everything can be fixed between the parties involved.

I'm glad all is well though. I was starting to worry that something might have been wrong with his health or something.

Doc, this is not directed at you, you're just a convenient point to interject these thoughts through to the rest of the TBN members reading this...

Sooo... before anyone goes jumping to conclusions, just remember this....

Sometimes a post gets moderated quicker than you can read it. You don't know what the post said or the words it contained or the number of times the "notify moderator" button was pushed by your fellow TBN members. You also aren't privy to both sides of the conversations that take place via Private Mail. Every day, there are plenty of posts here on TBN that mention God, country, politics, baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet that have nothing whatsoever to do with tractors that never get moderated because everyone takes a civil tone and generally has a good discussion.

Anyway, I guess I may understand a little bit better what happened. Do I agree with what happened? I don't think so. Not in this case anyway. Granted, Dick did discuss God a little bit more than what would be considered normal for this forum, but in this case I personally think it was alright. He would certainly have a somewhat different take on most things than the rest of us, and he was expressing his thoughts as a reminder.

But I noticed that a number of other responses mentioned God in very similar contexts that Dick did. I wonder if these individuals received an admonition also?

In my opinion, I think that an admonishment in this instance was inappropriate. But this just gets us back to previous discussions on when the moderators should step in and when they should let well enough alone. Unfortunately it's a judgement call. On that basis, I will support the moderators, right or wrong.

I don't think you want to go there /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. I agree, for people who believe in God or Allah (they are the same) and who live a life of a believer then it is very diffucult if impossible to leave that part of YOU out nor would I expect it. We cannot compartmentalize every blasted thing. Society has become anti-GOD and anti Christian as well. I believe in GOD and I believe in Jesus and I know pruntyc was a good man if a bit ornery, much better than I will ever be.
There are quiet a few who are missing in action here, I guess after the above statement I might be as well. If so, y'all have a great Christmas and a wondeful life. J

Yes, thats a good point. I never did personally see the stuff that got deleted. I am just conveying tid bits from a private conversation. I am honestly only doing that so no one thinks Dick is ill. I know this has nothing to do with any of the moderators whose posts are still on that strand. The exchange bewteen Dick and Bird seems about as civel as you can get in regards to religon. I cant find fault with the man for haveing faith, conviction or answearing a direct question, even if I might dissagree. Of course I have no idea weather I would dissagree or not because I never read it. I think Dick does say in that strand he is a Minister. My new years resolution is to avoid all conversations here regarding politics, religon etc. It just doesnt work. Theirs always some one who gets offended or reads a post different than it was meant etc. Ijust think its pretty dog goned sad the way we are getting this knee jerk reaction to anything that mentions God in this country. God is the Very basis of all our beliefs. Personally I just dont care weather any one else believes, is Cathlic, Jewish, protestant or what ever. We are trying to get to the same place so lets all just accept one another for the different people we are. I never imagined I would see the day our kids cant say the Pledge of allegiance. ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.
