I have a hydraulic ironworker runs off a 3 hp 230 volt 3 phase motor that is rated 1700 rpms. What I wanna do is swap in a single phase 5hp motor, but I'm seeing its rated 3400 rpms. How would this affect the hydraulics?

If yours is anything like mine, the operation would be twice as fast. I wouldn't like that. I'd look up the specs on the pump and see if it's in range. My ironworker is by Edwards and is single phase. You could change the pump to a lower volume to compensate.

Do you only want to use what you have or can you use this motor?

5 HP 230 VAC 1740 RPM MOTOR

If you motor is not direct coupled, you could use belt and pulley or chain.
