And for me was the 78 MonteCarlo that I inherited when I got married. That car just about bankrupted me.

In chronological order. Lord, this really dates me. . . .

1948 BSA 250 c.c single pot motorbike. Side valves. I had to get off and push it up steep hills. Still, I was young and delighted to own ANY vehicle.
1957 Sunbeam Talbot Supreme - a complete joy.
1953 Austin A30 with those little yellow arms for indicators that popped out of the door pillars. Slow as a sloth but it’s 900 c.c. engine sipped gas through a straw.
Another Sunbeam Talbot.
1972 Pontiac (I think a Ventora?). Column gear change and one of those wonderful bench seats across the front - the best possible passion wagon.
1972 MGB roadster. A sweet little two seater.
1973 Saab 99. This car haunted me for ten months. I swear it was cursed.
1981 Renault 5. A great little car with bags of character.
1984 Citroen GSA. Way ahead of its time design wise but every time the wind caught the door and blew it against the pillar, the door buckled at the hinge. Thank God I never had an accident in it.
1986 Another Renault 5.
1991 Volkswagen Passat. Terrific car with a light and responsive chassis and great reliability.
1973 Land Rover Series 2. Rattled like a tin can full of marbles but the diesel engine would run forever.
1994 Porsche 944. Ruby red and grossly over-rated. I needed a second mortgage to pay for the service charges and it burned oil as if it were a steam train.
1994 Audi 100. Wallowed like a boat compared to the Passat.
2000 Honda S2000. Red lined at 9000 and a chassis balanced like a gyroscope. Written off after a high speed smash on a wet motorway. No one hurt.
1992 Mercedes Ghelandewagen. German engineering at its world beating best. Diesel. A complete delight in every possible way.
2002 Mercedes ML320. Not a patch on the Ghelandewagen but capable nonetheless.
2005 Toyota Tacoma. A bit non-descript but pretty comfortable for a pickup. I'll keep it for some years yet.

Worst - the Saab by many a miserable mile.
Best - the car I wish I still owned, the Ghelandewagen.

The 2 Chevy's hold the title of worst.

#1, #2, and #3 BEST were a (1)2000 Toyota Tundra 4WD, (2) 1984 Toyota 4WD SR5, and (3) a 1988 Toyota 4WD SR5 pick-up.

Notice a trend there?

WHEN Toyota decides to release a 3/4 ton/1 ton heavy duty truck, guess who'll be at the head of the line to buy one?

Can't honestly say I LIKE to buy 'em, just that I NEED to buy 'em sometimes. I average (over the last 30 or so years) about 70,000 a year on my daily driver. My employer pays a large percentage of my vehicle cost. (Weekly "allowance") It just makes good sense to replace every couple years.

Having an understanding boss helps too. I'm allowed to buy (and let him share in the expense) of owning what I need as far as using the truck on MY farm. (1 ton dually now, when a minitruck would fill his needs)

I had a 78 CJ5 and a 79 CJ7. Both were less than quality.

Body rust, electrical problems, and a fragile frame were to blame for my not liking them.

you got it right on the jeep, plus mine would drown out if it hit a big mudhole /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I have never seen wiring so brittle on any vehicle. Had to rewire the entire thing.

Wow! What year?

I grew up in a '42 MB(was actually a Ford built per Willy's spec for war time production) and '70 CJ5. Both were wonderful. It was amazing where that bone stock MB would go, with the little flathead four cylinder and 5:38 gears. Of course, freeway travel was a bit slow /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Both were used heavily off road and on.

I have had good fortune in general with autos. The best was my '74 Roadrunner.

The one that had issues, we still really liked. We had a '94 Jag XJ6 for 10 years. It had computer/sensor issues that they never really figured out after ten years and 180k miles.

I have driven a LOT of cars. From Pinto's to Mercedes, Corrola's to Lexus, Road Runners to IROC Camaro's. Nothing, I say NOTHING, drives like a Jag. The smooth handling, silky but positive power, comfort of interior, I have never seen in other cars. Some are really nice, but they do not drive like a Jag(at least the XJ series).

We'll get another. Right now though, we need trucks more than we need cars...
