I had a fellow Guardsman from my unit set me up with a free pass to the Dale Jarrett Driving Adventure. I drove six laps around Talladega at around 165-170 MPH. Here is a picture of me with my 6 year old on her birthday Saturday before I drove.

Here I am getting into the car. It was one of Front Row Joe's old cars.

Believe me it WAS fun. It is quite humbling too! If you are a race fan you already know these guys are good but when you get on a 33 degree bank and you realize that they do it with a car in front and behind them and then a couple on each side.

Hmmm, obvious their tilt-meter is a custom made one.

I can't even think that fast.....

Reminds me of when I was a kid and I owned a 1966 Corvette, 427/390hp. Went 154 mph with the top down. That's an adrenaline rush. Now that I'm old, 65 is fast enough.

Friend of mine had a 327/350 '66 We never topped it out... always ran out of road first. Nowadays I sit in the right lane about 3 or 4 MPH over the speed limit and wonder why all these folks are in such a hurry and hope someone as foolish as I used to be doesn't cream me. I had lots of fun back then, but more to live for now. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In the early sixties I was with a bunch that built and raced several cars called "modifieds". I never wanted to race cars, only build them and TAKE THEM to the races. One day I took one of the cars out and hot-lapped a few times on the 1/4 mile aphalt track. It was very different than I expected; the sideways forces, the VIBRATION, and the tendency of the car to want to take the extreme outside line. I would NOT want to drive in a race, no way. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

When I had the 'vette, Sunoco 260 premium gasoline was 28 cents a gallon, a good set of tires were "wide ovals", the techno types had Michelin radials and Mickey Dee's burgers were 25 cents each and fries were a nickel. I was eighteen, young-dumb and full of ***. I had shoulder length hair, wore bell bottoms and worried about going to Viet Nam. I survived Viet Nam, raised a family got on with life and now look forward to retirement in 1-1/2 years.

Glad I'm now old, grey and pretty blown away!!

Maybe after you get a little more practice Dale will let you drive the "BIG BROWN TRUCK" /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I would like to do that too. Not the truck.
