What if a new tractor wasn't new?

   / What if a new tractor wasn't new? #71
Hello Almost Canadian from the West Coast of Canada. I bought my used L35TLB from the same Kubota Dealership in Calgary last year and found them good to deal with. I am glad that things also worked out for you. It certainly pays off to speak up if things are not the way that you expect. Cheers, Don....

0.5 hours. I am very pleased.

All's well that ends well.

Thanks for the assistance. I just need to learn how to use it now!

You also need to learn how to post some pictures so we can share in your joy and be envious of your purchase. Pictures, please.

As cold as it is in Alberta right now I'll bet that tractor will start first time and every time. I have an L4300 and an MX5100, which are basically the same as yours and I couldn't be happier. The four cylinders you have will idle smooth and the horsepower will get you out of most any jam. My L4300 is a workaholic and just sips the fuel.

Congrats on a great tractor.

I think you got the last year for the L4600, I was at a Kubota dealer today and they have an L3901 on the lot which supposedly has common rail injection and a DPF. The Kubota Canada website shows an L4701, which I assume is an emission-enhanced L4600.

A Deere buyer here went through the same dog and pony show last year with regards to the number of hours on his "new" tractor. Same result in the end, though.

Congrats on the new machine, get some bales on those spears and start building hours of your own!

Thank you.

I can't wait to learn how to get to grips with it.

It came with a block heater installed. Rule of thumb with cars is that one doesn't plug them in until it drops below -20 C. As you will know from the post above, it was around that when I started it yesterday and it fired up with no problem at all. It is kept in an unheated Quonset.

I have to admit that it looks too shiny at the moment, it needs some muck on it!

When I called another dealer to obtain their price for a base model (to provide me with ammunition that the base price I had been quoted had not been discounted for receiving an ex-demonstrator) they enquired as to why I wanted a L4600 when that model was about to be "upgraded" so I understand all that you are saying.

The temperatures being as they are at the moment, the horses will be munching through our round bales in no time at all, so I anticipate that I will become very familiar with how those spears work very soon. I just hope the snow holds off for the rest of this winter and that I don't get to try out the rear blade for snow clearing for another 8 months or so!

My rule of thumb is if it's cold out and I want a shorter warm up time, it gets plugged in! Electricity is cheaper than diesel.

Unless you are like me and leave it plugged in for days, sometimes weeks, at a time.

I leave a cord out to my tractor all winter. I leave the tractor end plugged in so I can plug/unplug it from inside my garage. Well I plug it in, wait a few hours and go use the tractor and plug it in when I am done... but when I come inside I forget to unplug the cord inside. I estimate that since mid-december my tractor has been plugged in about 1/3 of the time. I don't even want to know what that has cost me in electricity, but the tractor always starts real easily and warms up fast.

Am I the only one?

Our cars are plugged into timer switches in our garage.

I hadn't thought of having a similar set up with the tractor as I anticipated that there would always be enough time to plug in, leave it for 3 hours, and then start it up. As I said, yesterday it fired up with no problem at all and, as I only intended to pull it out of the Quonset long enough to take a picture and then back it back in, I was not too concerned about the lack of efficiency of my course of action.

I do appreciate that running from cold and then only running it for a short time is a recipe for disaster for the engine and, in future, I will ensure that it is plugged in prior to cold starting!
