Or sold them for a good buck to VS. Like the Triumph Rat Net forum, my IT owned that and I was a mod there for years. When he sold it to VS, I resigned and have not been back since. Did I say VS blows? They do.

Generally a 403 often recurs because of a cached page...but the actual error that originally caused the 403 is on the server side not the user side...That's why clearing the cache etc often will solve the current problem...but it does nothing to actually fix the problem that caused the server to throw the error in the first place...

I've only tried free ones and they slowed things down considerably. Paid ones might be better, but I'm cheap.

My Brave browser, which is set up the same as chrome and can transfer chromes settings has a built in VPN. You can use it when you want in a private mode, or all the time. Its free, but it slows things down no matter what because it re-routes things to hide where you are coming from. Even with regular browsing without the VPN on it makes seem like you are from somewhere else. Mine frequently shows I'm from NM instead of MA.

Look into it, you can customize a lot of what you block or don't as well.

I have a second laptop (notebook) for travel that doesn't have any passwords embedded. (And I don't connect to my bank.) I'm retired so no employer risk. Have a first-rate ISP. VPN's are slower.

Thanks for the comments. I try to keep up with general improvements in technology but it sounds like the hype over 'everyone needs a VPN' can be ignored.

It really depends on what you are trying to hide and from whom...IMO for several reasons Internet based proxies or private networks are the biggest scam on personal Internet users since AV software...!

You can hide your IP etc. from fourth parties but you still have to connect through your ISP and the proxy...some virtual networks will encrypt requests etc. but it really depends on the ISP and the proxy...

IMO The best way to be anonymous as possible (without paying for a direct pipeline to a trunk/backbone carrier (minimum $1K/month) and eliminating a typical ISP) and setting up your own system proxy...The way to go on the cheap is using the 'TOR' Browser' Tor Project | Download

In my situation a necessary evil because of my .com website and the fact that I deal worldwide and I tend to pick up parasites from offshore, especially from third world countries

I think I'm ok on each of those points, worst case might be doing something to receive spam email (rare, and never opened). "VPN's are] biggest scam on personal Internet users since AV software...!" That confirms my impression! But I'm aware that now 20 years after I was responsible for keeping up with stuff, what I know may be outdated.

I assumed posting anything through TOR will put you on a government list since many of the exit points are in Virginia. So I've avoided that. It probably is best-available for a whistleblower, spy, reporter, whatever, who needs real anonymity.
