What is a Cab Worth?

James, this was an unusual year for us as we often go all winter without any or little accumulation, so I can't claim too much hardship.

Living in the upper midwest I thought a cab would be the answer. Heat, removable windows, fan, radio, and a lot of glass for great visibility. So I fabricated a metal cab with safety glass. Glass and weatherstrip were the major cost factors as the metal structure was cheap. Now that I have used it for two years if I could sell it for cost it would be gone tomorrow. Its just to confining always seeing glass reflection and corner braces. Winter snow blowing only lasts an hour which is hardly time to get cold. My 955 and the NH TC55 will not be getting cabs. Love the sun, wind, and mostly the unobstructed view of nature. Not being confined entering or leaving as well as cleaning the glass will be a thing of the past. I have $900. in the cab feeling sorry for those paying three thousand or more for the structure. The good news is I can relegate the 955 to mowing duties and light loader duties leaving the cabbed 4110 for an emergency.

I really like a cab in the winter when I am snow blowing. But, when the weather permits, I am happier in an open station. Out where I can see and hear what is going on, plus not having to open the door each time I get on/off... which is often when working alone. And one of the big reasons I bought my property out in the woods was to be outside. Not enclosed in a glass cage.

You absolutely curse the glass when driving into a dark building during the day and all you can see is the reflections behind you. I would say it's sometimes impossible to do what you are trying to do, unless you get out twelve times and see exactly where your forks are.

This is not a question if "others" like a cab or not, it is a question if the primary user likes open air or a cab. I have run open air tractors, open/cabbed skid steers, and my cabbed Toolcat and I'm on the fence what I'll endorse. I too enjoy nature and all it offers, good and bad. I also enjoy heat, a/c, radio, and being out of the cold or hot sun. The cab also helps with hay fever conditions. Every person thinking about purchasing a tractor should understand what each option offers and what is important to them. Don't buy the type of tractor for people that isn't using it or paying for it. :2cents:
