What is a fair price to charge for tracktor/backhoe work?

if a full size hoe is getting $60/hr here.... then I would think you would be in the $45-50/hr range here. Of coarse if a full size is getting $100/hr where you are... you could probably get $75-80/hr.
That's what I was trying to point out.

I guess I came across wrong :) You guys sort it out. Me no big ego, me just wanna be in business tomorrow :)

Cool and I wasn't trying to pick on you, per se. In my area, that thought process and work ethic seem to go hand in hand and to me, it's VERY frustating because I know that my company delivers all 3. Why am I supposed to expect less from everyone else? Why, especially retail, am I supposed to be happy to shop for everything in a self service manner when I'm not saving time or money in the process? Why am I supposed to be happy to have the XYZ company say we'll have someone there sometime between 8 and 5?

I never answered the original question, I got side tracked and soap boxy, my apologies.

Current rates are 85 per hr, bobcat or backhoe time, all time goes by hour meter on machine- 4 hour minimum and unfortunately, right now $75 extra fuel allowance for transport. My buddies run 85 -100 per. My sub bills his 953 at 100 per hour and the big dog 325 excavator gets 125 per.

Have any of you rented a backhoe?

I would think you guys should of decided on an hourly rate before any work was started. Sometimes, especially when cash is involved, what one person thinks is expensive the other person feels they are being taken advantage of. You guys are both adults, and should have sorted out the hourly fee out before any work began. That way there is no surprise at the end of the project for either party. And like others have stated, it would be better for both parties if a total price for the job was agreed upon before the work started. Personally, I hate surprises, which can only lead to dis-appointment by one party, or the other.

I just bought a commercial grade Chinese mini ex(Kymron ZX22) with the intention of making some money on the side. I have almost 50 hours on it now and am getting faster at operating the machine.

I have my first job to do which is to excavate a slope on one side of a house several feet out from the house. I plan to use my light duty dump truck with the excavator to move the dirt away from the house - I was thinking $100/hour. Homeowner said they will level the dirt out in there yard 150-200' away.
My wife told them we were thinking $80-100 - they said sounds reasonable - Since I am using the dump truck I am going call it $100. They are only 12ish minutes away - not sure what i'll charge for transport/setup.
