What is a reasonable rate for a Dump Truck?

Can he tailgate it??? It will take me all winter to spread 70 tons of material with my little 6' bucket!

Then I will also need 6 weekends of raking with my little 4' yorkie rake and mower:laughing: to smooth out my sloppy fel work!

I would like some extra left over so i can fill or do a couple spots for parking etc.

Doubt you'll find anyone with a semi to tailgate anything. The trailer ends up being too high off the ground and unstable. If the recycle plant is open on a wet day and you can absolutely get trucks in and out of your area, that's the cheapest time to hire (most job sites will be shut down). It will almost certainly be a last minute phone call to you and "cash with no receipts" almost always helps.
50 tons isn't a whole lot of material when you get it on the ground. Tell the driver what spread rate you're looking for (2", 4", etc.) and you'll probably have little or no moving/raking to do.

The recycled conrete can come with rebar poking out and other types of tire killing surprises in it. It is worth the extra $ to get stone in my opinion. I used recyled concrete once and won't do it again.

I put down 14ton of recycled concrete this spring after we bought the new house.

Re-bar was picked out to start and then the crusher had a magnetic pickup on the outfeed belt.

Absolutely nothing but crushed concrete/stone and the occasional piece of brick.

Id buy it again, compacted well and is holding up as well or better than standard 3/4 minus crushed limestone. (CA-7)

oh as for dump truck rate, mine cost me...$50 to have delivered, about a 30 min trip, so $100 an hr give or take

Milkman,

I called. NO METAL, she was offended to even imply it. It ranges from powder to 1.5" chunks she said (I believe it is more likely to be loser to powder.

The big boys can tailgate like nobodies business if there are no overhanging branches and ground is relatively level. Look into road millings or fine slag too.

Fixemall,

I got branches and a VERY steep hill with 2 sides of the loop, so no semi for me :(

Road Millings are the ground up asphalt (Right?), so that would be black (might melt snow faster in sunlight?

What is fine slag?

Thanks to you both!

I had a several of the larger chunks with sharp rebar sticking out of the sides. There were also a few other odds and ends in there that I was not expecting, along with some red brick chunks. My five year old was the first one to spot the rebar and ask me about it. He probably saved me a tire or two.

The stuff was inexpensive and packed well, but it took me quite a while to trust it. I still think that there might be a couple surprise left buried in there.

It may be that my experience is not typical, but I am not going to use it again. Hopefully the recycler you are dealing with is doing a better job at seperating all the stuff out. Just be careful and watch closely when you start working with it.

When it comes to trucking the only way to know cost is to call a few trucking companies in your area. The haulers will be able to give you feedback on products also. They will know what's available, what it costs, and how people like it.

If you're not too picky about delivery time and let them know it's a cash deal you can usually catch a decent break on the trucking charges. They'll call before they load to make sure you're there and ready.

Getting the initial loads spread with the truck is the way to go. But you are thinking that it would take forever to spread with your tractor? 50 tons is at most 100 bucket loads, you might be surprised at how quick you would be able to get it spread yourself.

David I can spread 7 tons ( usual load I get at one time) in about 15 maybe 20 minutes if the haul distance is not too long. (say 100 foot max) so 10 times that much and maybe increase the haul distance some.. say a long day? maybe another day to backdrag it pretty smooth. I would tackle it with what you already have. Look at it this way, yes you are a FEL noob. but when you get done, you are going to be a lot better. Trust me on this:) you can do it! and it won't take all winter.

I have contracted a trucking company to deliver& tailgate at least 2 loads, approx 23 tons each for the delivery charge of $150 per load.

The recycled concrete is costing me $9/ton plus tax.

I will have him tailgate it starting around 0815 tomorrow.

I have an option for a 3rd load if needed (I suspect I will ask for a 3rd load...I hope to have some left in a pile I can use as needed for parking spaces and other similar areas)

I got a referral from my old next door neigbor in the asphalt business.

That is the update.

Be well,
David

Three loads ~22.5 tons each.

Four Hours or more of backdragging and moving material. It clumps REALLY well and it was almost impossible to tailgate, boulder sized chunks kept messing things up. the material ended up spread REALLY THICK and wide in spots (esxpecialy where I cannot get to the excess with the bucket!!!

I had a really rough day...

I am WAY better at backdragging, removing the toothbar, removing the grapple. My hand is killing me...

I've gotta go get ready for a job interview in CA tomorrow, so wish me luck and I will update it all later.

Be well everyone.
