In general, what is considered good discount from list price on new tractor?

I'm looking at 5055D and right now have quote for about 16% off list for tractor and loader? I'm looking for win-win knowing the dealer has to make some money on the deal also. And at 0% for 60 months this is hard to pass up.

Also, what is considered fair $/hp price going to next size? I always hear stepping up to next size not much more and always worth it but you have to draw a line somewhere. I'm thinking about 5065E 2wd as well but is $2,500 more for 10hp..... seems a little steep for what I was expecting based on other's comments.

Been lurking awhile and lookign forward to having a "seat" soon to know what "seat time" is all about.

Thanks.

Where I live, 16% off list would be considered good. I've seen as high as 17.5% off on JD compacts but will vary depending on where you live.. Couple the 16% discount with zero percent for 60 mos and it seems like a pretty good deal to me.

From what I understand getting 16% off on a basic tractor such as the 5055
D is a good deal. You could get a few more points off if you were buying a deluxe tractor with more bells and whistles as the dealer has more room to work with.

Also - I found out that UNLESS it is specifically stated, all the financing through JD assumes at least a 25% down payment. That turned me away from the 5083E limited and kind of pi**ed me off as it was written in some obscure place not near where the big 0% for 60 months was written (or even 2.9% for 72 mo). Make sure to find out about a required down payment.

It's their way of making sure you have "skin in the game". Kubota does it by requiring you to have insurance on the machine if you use their financing.

kfvintx,

Don't assume either 25% or zero down --- ask the dealer if it's not stated in print. These terms/plans vary every 2 or 3 months and do change. I know this from experience. Also, Deere may require you to have insurance but in many cases homeowners is sufficient depending on your insurance and use of equipment. Last JD tractor I bought (I've bought several) I had zero down with zero interest and had to have insurance but my homeowners covered.

Same here. The salesman wrote my Homeowner's Policy information on the JD Financing application. There was a section for it and it was a requirement.

My experience a few days ago was different. The dealer told me that UNLESS THERE IS SPECIFIC down payment information, it is assumed to be the standard of 25% to 35% down payment. He said that was how JD is offering rates in the 1 to 3% range for 72 mo while everyone else is more likely to be 4.5 to 5%.

I agree that you need to ask. I did and found out that at least through this dealer I needed a big chunk upfront.

It is interesting to see how much dealers will knock down a given unit. I had a few variations priced out and the % off MSRP varied from over 9% to 2%. As someone mentioned before, the higher level/deluxe models seem to have more wiggle room.

Yep - HO policy often covers the tractor.

Thanks for info so far.

I have confirmed with dealer that 0% interest is with 0 down. Of course, "with approved credit" for whatever that means anymore. I also confirmed that the 16% discount is inclusive of $750 rebate (purchasing 2 implements also) JD is also offering right now so true discount from dealer is closer to 12%.

The dealer offers insurance as required for financing from JD. It is less than $10/month and then don't have to make claim on homeowner's policy if something should happen and with lower deductible than what I carry on homeowner's.

Hopefully have a tractor soon..... and yes, pics will be included to prove it

Congratulations on your new tractor... or maybe soon-to-be new tractor! My last tractor was around 16% below MSRP. Zero percent financing with 0 down. We elected to place a bit more than 10% down to lower the monthly charge.

I believe the financing terms vary between dealerships. The higher volume/unit dealers can generally offer better financing terms.

The important thing is - ask and discuss - before making a final committment.

Good luck!
