What is considered good discount?

The best way to find out if your discount is good is to shop around. Plus, you'll learn different things from different people. You'll also get a feel for the involved dealers and who suits you the best. This is the most important factor, even over a couple of hundred bucks of savings.

When the dealer knows you are serious about buying, they should demonstrate to you whether they really want you as a customer or not. Some don't care, some bend over backwards.

Of utmost importance, the sales end is one thing but the service end is really crucial to making or breaking a dealer in the long term. Do what you can to learn about their service department before buying.

Trust me. I'm giving you pearls, here. I could go on for hours on this topic.

Congratulations on your new tractor... or maybe soon-to-be new tractor! My last tractor was around 16% below MSRP. Zero percent financing with 0 down. We elected to place a bit more than 10% down to lower the monthly charge.

I believe the financing terms vary between dealerships. The higher volume/unit dealers can generally offer better financing terms.

The important thing is - ask and discuss - before making a final committment.

Good luck!

Correct, financing varies between dealership groups. Deere does not actually require the down mention earlier in the post but many dealer groups have since added a down percentage on retail notes depending on the recourse of the note. Not all retail notes are the same either, it is very very common for a dealer to require as much as 30% down on an AG retail note esp if it is not a monthly pay setup. In this case homeowners insurance is not enough. Personal use notes however is a whole nutter ball game, very common for homeowner insurance to work just fine (although again as mentioned earlier in the post personal use insurance is sooo cheap no reason not to use it). These notes are also typically set up as monthly pays so if a down is required on a zero % advertised note then either the dealer is asking that Deere require it for them (yes they can do that most dealers will have their own anylist (sp?) at Deere credit. Or the credit rating of the individual has dictated a down payment. An example of why someone would even do a AG note would be like in my home state machinery bought for ag does not have sales tax added, personal use does.

I think you did pretty good at 16% off. Around here 10% off is as good as it gets.

After all the figuring, looks like my dealer gave me a little under 18% off the factitious MSRP price.
