Tractor
Kubota L35
Well, the L3830 has caught my eye and now I'm making my list of implements and attachments, along with their assoiated retail price. (If you are going to buy a new tractor, be sure to read this string of messages about how to negotiate your new acquisition.)

When I rented my Kubota L2900 a few weeks ago for some grading, it had a couple of features on its box scraper that I thought were really useful. Could you tell me what these are called so I can add them to my list? And also let me know if you view these features as particularly useful.

The box scraper was controlled by a lever which moved it up and down. I see that this is standard on all tractors so you can move the attachment off the ground. There was also a set of 4 levers which controlled the angle of the box scraper (back and front up/down) and the angle of the box scraper (left and right up/down) and deployment of the ripper blades (up and down) and one other movement I can't recall.

There were 4 levers all together, attached right of the seat. The 3ph had 2 additional cylinders, for controlling those angles. The box scraper had a cylindar which controlled the rippers. One thing I noticed about the box blade cylinder was that it did not 'hold' the rippers up all the time. The rippers descended probably because of a hydraulic leak somewhere.

During the 3 days that I had the tractor, I used all 4 levers frequently - in addition to the basic up/down lever provided by Kubota of course. In fact, I can't really picture how you would make these angle adjustments without having those extra controls.

So ... what are the pieces and parts should I be asking for in this type of setup? And do you think these are useful on an ongoing basis?

Thanks.

I believe what you are referring to is a called a Top n' Tilt. This is a setup that replaces the screw-type, manual top link bar and the right hand lfit arm by hydraulic cylinders.

The 3rd lever you describe which moves the rippers or scarifiers up and down sounds like a "rear remote." This isn't specifically for the box scraper but rather for any hyrdaulically operated application (like rotating the chute on a snowblower).

Do a search on this site for both those terms to confirm this is what we're talking about.

Well actually they are all technically "rear remotes" since they provide additional hydraulics plumbed to the rear of the tractor. Its just as easy to refer to them as "remotes" since they could power a 4'n1 bucket or grapple attachment which are in the front of the tractor. In the case of a top 'n tilt setup two of the remotes are dedicated to these functions. The third remote is available for another hydraulic function.
