Therein lies the problem. Just what humane punishment would be proportionate to inflict on a drunk driver with multiple convictions, no license or insurance, that kills a family in a traffic accident?“The Eighth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution prohibits cruel and unusual punishments. This protection extends to both federal and state governments.It aims to ensure that punishments are humane and proportionate to the crime, evolving with society's standards of decency.”
That person needs to be removed from society, permanently, by one method or another.
