It probably WAS company policy (and for good reason), but clearly not strictly enforced. A personal appeal to the right person can often work wonders.

When my ex left, I tried to remove the vehicle she took from MY insurance policy. The agent wouldn't let me without her approval. The vehicles were all in my name only but she was listed as a driver.
