The splits are at the engine/transmission interface and at the transmission/rear end interface on most modern tractors.
Here's an example--my 1951 Minneapolis Moline BF tractor being reassembled after a complete restoration. The engine has been removed and is on a run stand. The split occurred between the rear of the engine/clutch assembly and the driveshaft on this old tractor.
