I know these questions have been posted before (somewhere) on this forum. But I will ask them again.

1. How many hours a year is the average use for a CUT ?

2. What is the average life/hours of a CUT tractor/ engine that has been properly maintained?

3.Does anyone have or know of a CUT with extremely high hours for not being a very old tractor / IE:excessively high usage in a short number of years. What was the brand how did it hold up ?This is one question I am sure the dealers would really be able to help with ?

I find responses to question like this interesting to reflect on and hear what others have to say. I heard one guy had a JD 4000 series somewhere and used it on a dairy farm and the amount of hours he said was on it,they must have lived on it.

Thanks

We've seen some Kubota's with 10,000 hours on them and still out working from commercial duty being sold out to residential use. They were in the ten year old range and still so to speak going strong. Everything was a little loose but still functioning. The average home owner seems to be about 150 to 200 hours a year. Found one last winter that was 14 years old and still had the original battery in it and had 1700 hours on it from mowing and snow removal and was always outside!

Lets see. I use my little Kubota 50 hours a year tops, with a 10,000 hour life expectancy, thats 200 years. I don't think I am going to be able to wear it out. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My B8200 appears to be made about 1987 by the serial number. So, it's 16 years old, and 854 hours. I have a feeling it will run for a long time, although I wonder how long the seals will last before I start getting leaks...

I wonder how many hours my '41 Farmall-A has on it... It has no meter, so no way to know...

My neighbor's 1975 Ford 4000 finally ate a valve after something way beyond 10,000 hours, and that was after a maintenance schedule in the "benign neglect" category. And that old Ford block was nothing like a modern diesel such as made by Kubota or Yanmar, etc.
Engine life for these little diesels will probably take them through several generations of "amateurs" like me, unless they are seriously abused, that is.

A year ago I replaced my 44 year old Power King with a Kubota BX2200. I estimate the Power King was used about 100 hours (or more) per year. It was well maintained and it was used hard during that time. It was a very simple, over-engineered design. The only maintenance was occasional lubes, oil changes twice per year and an occasional spark plug; only minor repairs in 44 years. It had a single cylinder 9 HP B&S engine that was extremely reliable that was never overhauled. When I sold it last year it was still running perfectly. I frequently regret selling it. (picture.. My Uncle cutting grass the day after the tractor was delivered in 1957).

I believe the BX2200 will last a long time but not as long as my Power King. The BX is a much more complex machine with many more points of wear. My expectation is that the BX should provide at least 25 years of reliable service in my work environment (2500 - 3000 hours). I think the engine will outlast the rest of the tractor if properly maintained.

I won't be around 44 years from now to see /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif, but I suspect if you give that BX the same kind of care you gave the Power King, it'll last just as long as the Power King did.

Bird, you may be right. I just figured that the BX would not last as long because it is much more complex, with many more moving parts and possible points of failure. More chance that something major will fail the longer you own it.

BTW, I doubt that I will ever see the day that the BX wears out. Maybe my sons will.
