Comparison What is the best brand of tractor?

/ What is the best brand of tractor? #291
Whew, this thread went downhill fast. Okay, I only need a CUT or even SCUT, have a Deere 2210 now. Great little tractor, but I've decided instead of buying a $2,700 front end loader, I'm going to sell it and just find a bit bigger tractor with FEL. Plus, Deere messed up on these U joints and plastic fans to cool transmission. What I want is a tractor I can work on myself. Normal maintenance stuff without having to take the thing apart! Reliability and easy maintenance is what I'm after.

Had a 2210, just bought an LS3135. I got past buying what "everyone else has" and paying a premium for a paint color. That was how I got the JD. This time was based on actual research.
At least take a look. There are just as good options out there without the premium price.

Good plan!!! How many hours and years have you got on your LS??? Is it easy to work on? Where is the HST cooling fan located on that tractor? Are the U-joints in the driveshaft from engine to HST easily greased?? I'm not familiar with your tractor model so am trying to educate myself. Thanks for your replies.

I guess this is as good as any of a place to post this. I'm tired of mud, I got my tractor stuck yesterday.

I hauled my dumptruck to my place so I can work on it in my barn and hopefully get it going before spring, well I parked it outside by the barn, fired up the tractor to feed the cattle a round bale, sure enough backing out I couldn't get out of the ruts and all the tractor wanted to do is go strait into the dump truck so I had to jump it and move it, loading it up and unloading it with no breaks was not fun at all, neither was moving it around.

I ended up getting the tractor out but I'm gonna have major work todo this spring fixing ground.

I am from N. MN and I sell hay. Most of it gets loaded out in the winter months of Jan and Feb. Well last week we had a major thaw and I too made ruts in my bale rows. Never seen that happen in Jan before. Now it has went back to normal and froze solid. Now I have frozen ruts to deal with in getting the last 90 bales out. Wonderful.

We still haven't froze here, after that thaw the ground has just been mud, unfortunately I still have to get tractor out, load up round bales and feed the cattle if the ground is soft or not. It just sucks, went all summer and fall with no issues and run into this in Jan. Hopefully the ground freezes and stays frozen or this prob will continue to get worse.

You may as well start a thread asking which oil is the best!!! ;) I would say what ever dealer is close and offers you the highest quality of support.

Nice little dump truck. I bet that comes in handy. That size is hard to come by!

The best brand of tractor has to be the brand that inspires the operator to take proper care of their tractor.

Friend of mine has 800 cattle. Doesn't appear you are struggling much. :)

Haha thanks Richard. I guess I've seen enough around here to make that call. I've seen 'good' brands that have had repeated problems due to lack of pride and attention, and El Cheapo brands that punch well above their weight due to being housed inside, kept clean, maintained, and repaired in a timely manner. So my view is that it's the operator that tips the balance not the badge. Running at 60-75% of maximum keeps the bills to 30% of what they could be.
I think some cheaper brands let themselves down by poor quality control hence the reputation, not necessarily build quality.
