Buying Advice What is the best generator for our needs?

catdiva6,
I am curious what this well is for, is this an irrigation well or something similar? I ask because if the well is only 85 ft deep and uses a 3 hp motor then it must have a very high flow rating. Most residential wells with an 85' depth could get by easily with a 1/2 to 3/4 hp submersible pump.

I'm down to 350 ft with a 1/2 hp pump. No problems in 20 years with this set up. Of course, I just haunted myself. Might as well call the well guy now for a new pump.

The company who installed your well may know the pump horse power.

do you have any idea how deep the surface of the water is normaly at? I ask because a 350 well would normally call for a 1hp or at bare minimum 3/4hp. Do you know if that 1/2hp is coupled to a special low volume water pump?

Ours 1hp sits at 350 ish feet.

Ours 1hp sits at 350 ish feet.

Our 1.5 HP sits at 365' with a 410' well bottom - static is 80' and with pumping and irrigation it drops to 250' static level or maybe 300' or lower.

So Arrow must have a very good performing well to keep the static water level at 100' or so with a 1/2HP pump.

This is unusual but my sister's 150' well in PA is an aquifer type (water flows out the top in spring and fall) and in the summer I doubt the static level is below 50'.

I agree, the OP has a larger pump than needed or she maybe does have a smaller pump and larger pump control box.

Not sure until amperage readings are taken.. you can find a decent Amprobe on ebay for $10-25 range the old analog meter type would solve this puzzle.

I asked Generace how long the surge was rated for and they said 3 seconds.

If you had the equipment to test it that would be an interesting thread on it's own!

Okay, so I will see if I can find out the hp before I go any further. Pretty sure it's 80' deep, thinking pump at 50' and static water at 35'. Sounds like it shouldn't be over 1hp... a trip to Sears is in order. Thanks!
