After combustion, sulfur from diesel fuel creates sulfuric acid that causes corrosive wear on the metal surfaces of an engine. Corrosion of a surface within a dynamic system such as the cylinder wall can lead to corrosive wear; surface corrosion layers are removed through sliding or abrasion.
Diesel oil has a higher zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate (ZDDP) level than gasoline engine oil, to form a film on bearings and the camshaft to prevent wear. ZDDP contains both zinc and phosphorous. This content is the leading reason diesel oil can't be used in gas engines.
This is why you need diesel oil for diesels unless you
plan on replacing your diesel engine real soon!
