"Boy, it's really looking like the last 20 years has been a time of improving existing inventions and a real drought of anything new."

Although I'm in the GPS camp also, how about fiber optic cable for telecommunications. I realize fiber optic cable has been around longer than 20 years in medical applications (scopes), but only got started in the early 80's for high-speed telecommunications and video transport. We still haven't reached fiber's upward capacity yet! It's also fun to see the effect when a backhoe snags a cable...

Today it's crippling our own right wing religious nuts and sabotaging the ones in the middle east.

The nutzos can try to lead the way to their god--political nirvana but they can't fight information. The fundamentalists of all brands will fail miserably, nature of the beast.

No politics, religion, or joke lists. Keep it clean and friendly!

Well.......ya hit two outta three there, Bub. Care to share a joke? Oh, yeah, you already did.

Maybe that wasn't so friendly on my part; Dubya, but if you continue to maintain a burr under your saddle about people of faith, I would be more than happy to carry on an email discussion of that with you. I am not going to defend "nuts", either Leftists or Rightists or Atheists or Fanatics, but I don't think this is a place to spew angry feelings. I'm sure you do not intend to slap any of us in the face with that comment, but I felt the wind, friend.

By the way, Dubya, I agree wholeheartedly with you about the internet (& information sharing) being a great medium, as well as a force for holding out against evil.

As you well know, a tool is a tool, and being inanimate it cannot be good or evil, but can be used by people for good or evil. I guess we could run down a list of evil uses of communication just as long as good ones.

We don't dare drift into the old personal responsibility and accountability discussion again, do we?

Evening Mark,

I thought my response was pretty neutral compared to some of the statements that float here occasionally, politically and religiously.

Moderates of all stripes never cause problems, nature of the beast I guess. But fundamentalists of all denominations do.

As for feeling the wind, just be glad your sinuses were acting up this week. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And Mark, you do know the difference between me and that other Dubya don't ya. Well besides the obvious like my two tours of Nam and ability to throw girls and boys.

I'm shorter, rounder, and smile more. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Glad you liked the nickname! I've tossed it out a couple times, just had to, you know, since I know you love your Texas bro so much and your chosen name is so similar to another Harv and we gotta use SOME kind of distinguishing character, just like between him and his daddy, and the first part of your name starts with.......Dubya!!!.

About those moderates: they're the guys who would've had us under the Brits 230 years ago, and the Germans 60-odd years ago, and wanted to just let things be after Sept. 11, 2001.....that's the way the conversation was going back then, W. We were to blame in the moderates' eyes. When I see a "Never Forget" T shirt, I think of how some showed their real colors back then. And I think a lot of folks are not going to forget that. It's one thing to wrangle over how tax money should be spent, or if it should be spent at all. It's quite another to stand by and let evil continue unabated. Those folks are the type who would cross the street if they saw bad guys hassling a little old lady. Sorry if I can't be moderate.....I don't think you are, either, W. There's a difference between peace and appeasement. I was too young for the war you fought, but not too young to remember how it was run from home by moderates. I wish you hadn't had to go over there, but I will always remember the lessons it taught us about how NOT to fight moderately.

Your response isn't any worse or better than anyone else's...including some of my older ones from the Off Topic days. It's just that you're such a big feller and I had so much fun wrestling with you before we had to be good and stop knocking over the lamps and coffee tables in here.

You're shorter than Dubya? I thought he was a little fella and you were a big bear. Are you saying the first decent leader of the free world in 8 years can only throw girls? My impression is that he treats girls a heckuva lot nicer than that other guy we had. I always thought you could tell a lot about a man by the way he treated women.................

Thank you Bill. You can learn a lot from W; he's made me sharper.

Not sharp....just sharper /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And speaking of sharp, I AM glad my nose was plugged. Like sharp cheese.
