What is the WORST injury you have ever sustained?

My worst was when I slammed on the brakes to avoid a deer, and rolled my friend's van. Nothing broken except the van, but I had bruises where my legs hit the steering wheel (which kept me from going out the door when it opened) cuts and bruises on my hand where I held myself off the roof as it went over. It was November so I had my deer rifle with me, which hit me in the head as it went out the open door. I compressed my back, and was in pain for a year until I wrecked it again canoeing against the wind and let it heal correctly.
The van had no seat belts, you'd be driving down rhe road and the door would fly open...one front drum brake worked better than the other, which contributed to the accident. The garage had told him that the previous safety sticker would be the last.
His employees thanked me for wrecking it.

Second worst was when a deer fell on me while I was skinning it... and drove a 4" boning knife to the hilt in my leg.

My buddy was trying to help me load a 700 lb bull on the truck and the bull was having nothing to do with that truck. We were in the small pen with the bull and it just kept turning back. my buddy said I know what to do and without a word jumped on the bulls back. It was like being a rodeo clown in a bedroom with someone riding a bull. The bull was bucking very well and my buddy was riding well. I stepped up on the fence to get out of the way and as the bull went by he butted me in the seat of the pants and lifted my up pretty fast. Did not hurt at all until my nose ran into a board nailed on top of the fence to brace things up a bit. I came down off of that fence and started swinging my stock cane. The bull headed for the truck and every time I hit the bull my buddy slid further up the bull tell when the bull got on the truck he was sitting on the bulls neck with its head between his knees. He grabbed the brace that ran over the top of the loading ramp and slid off. He said "i thought you were going to hit me too." My reply was I didn't care. After we got the tale gate in the truck I reached up and put my nose back in the middle of my face. It hurt bad enough but i am very glad to say that is about the worst I have been hurt. Ed

During the Vietnam war I was at FT. Bragg and was training with explosives while working in a weapons pool with a lot if nasty weapons, sub-machine guns to 50's to mortars. I sprained my ankle on a tree rut playing volleyball, jungle rules.

On midnight snack runs I've broken the same toe (the one that went wee wee wee all the way home) about three times just running it into semi-opened doors in our house in the dark. Just WHAM! and down you go. Makes you want to barf. Other than that, no broken bones. Torn rotator cuff. Sharp pain but therapy got me back to 100% motion and 90% strength. Gotta knock on wood. :thumbsup:

The worst I ever sustained was a broken arm. This happened in 1979, I had bought a 600 square foot cabin on the Deschutes river near Yelm, it was a hot day and I had just come home from a trip to town. I was eager to cool off in the river so I dropped whatever I was bringing home in the cabin changed into shorts and went out the front door closing it behind me. After cooling off in the river I discovered that the front door had locked behind me. Of course I did not have a key on me as I had been swimming in the river, there was a casement window in the bedroom that was open so I started to climb through it. I was on the window sill trying to avoid stepping on my "student modern" bookcase (2 old wood apple boxes) when I lost my balance and fell into the room. As I went down I heard a dull pop, when I got up my right wrist had a big kink in it.
A few hours later I found myself with a cast from hand to elbow with a couple pins through it to hold the powdered end of my radius in position.
I was working on a cadastral survey crew at that time and was unable to work for a couple of weeks. I took that time to get acquainted with my neighbors, one of them introduced me to their daughter a week or so later, 36 years later and she is still putting up with me. I guess you can never guess what can happen as the result of something that seems pretty bad at the moment!

I was working for a TV cable company rewiring a neighborhood. Pay was by the drop so I was rushing when I cut the old cable at the street where as I should have cut it at the house. I also should have been clipped to the trunk line. Anyway, I cut the drop cable, the trunk jumped away from me and my ladder. I dropped maybe fourteen feet on a curb. My wrist was swollen but I persevered through the day. I finally relented and went to OR. The nurse took one look at my wrist and said, "so, you like pain do you?". No maam, I do not. I do like to eat though. Also bruised my kidneys.

I guess having previously put up wind mills, I was slack climbing only fourteen feet, lol!

My worst injuries have been chemical, not physical.

#1. Overcome by chlorine gas at an industrial facility. Fortunately I was on an outdoor metal stairway, and when the gas knocked me out, I fell down the stairs and out of the gas cloud.

#2. Industrial strength ammonia in the left eye. The eye still feels a little bit "funny" 40 years later, but the vision was not effected. Hurt a lot.
