WOW!!!!!!!
Lot's of good answers! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif And thanks for all the replies. I am still googling some of your suggestions.... It almost looks like a huge acorn cap, and I had considered that possibility, however, the little stem part on the top looks as if it was lying to one side when ever it was imbedded in whatever cause it to fossilize; leading me to believe it had a stalk that was very flexible. And while I had seriously considered the possibility that it was a true MILH, (mother-in-lawsus heartacus), which is very similar to, and in the same genus as Corpolite (fossilized dinosaur s**t); further examination has ruled out this possibility. While it has sufficient hardness to qualify as a MILH. it seems to have the ability to retain heat and actually radiate warmth! Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh ....... more dead ends. I will not be deterred! My search continues !!!!!

Well it doesn't have that nautilus spiral like a segmentented spiral type snail shell. The round part in the center is not an indention, it is a stem, or stalk that is protruding out from the top. It sort of looks like one of those small pumpkins/gourds. Who knows..lol. I took some more pictures, but the board limits me to a small file size so I will have to figure out some way to post them on my web page. My wife is the web designer in the family, so I'll have to wait for her help on that.

Slydog person, I am a Geologist and from the fuzzy photo without my glasses making it even more fuzzy what you have does not appear to be a fossil at all. What it does look like is a pyrite dollar. I have a few here sitting on my coffee table. Pyrite, fools gold, is common in parts of Arkansas.
Well, let me say it is late, your picture is fuzzy and my glasses are upstairs so that is my disclaimer. There are pyritized fossils where pyrite is the repalcing mineral. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif. J

Lol...yes it is a quarter. But that's a fossil of George Washington, I already knew that! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've looked on the internet at enough photo's of pyrite dollars now that I have come to conclusion that it is not a pyrite dollar..............

umm...errr.... well it is dark brown in color, but in a moment of scientific experimentation while writing this reply... I thought..hey..why not scrape this brown rocky looking thing with your car key...

It's a pyrite dollar /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif It looks like gold sparkly stuff where I scraped the underside of it.

Ok...now my next question. Whats the best way to clean pyrite to make it shine like gold without degrading the interesting shape?

And thanks again for all your replies! The mystery is solved! Eureka! Watson come quick! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
