You need that. It holds the water in.

Don't run the engine until the freeze plug is replaced and the tractor is refilled with antifreeze. Hopefully, the block is not cracked.

Keyword, ANTIFREEZE. In as much as no one knows your location it might be prudent to use a 50-50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water.
