Wishing you best of luck my friend and thanks for the reminder on the bolts, will check this weekend when I do my oil change.

I hope the jbweld works for you, I've never had any luck with it.

I'd just tap out the hole for a larger sized bolt rather than trying to "glue" one in place.

If it is just cracks maybe possible to weld in place???? I'm far from an expert welder and have never welded cast, but I do understand you need to pre-heat.

I'd think you'd have little to loose by trying to weld up in place prior to tearing down and replacing the piece.

I'd hate to see the casing fail and then cause other damage to axles or internals.

Good luck I hope it all works out in the most painfree manner possible.

Sincerely,
Joel

If you didn't drill a hole at the end of the crack.
It will help relieve the stress and usually stops the crack from going any further.

Ive done it with a eutectic cast iron rod

Castolin Eutectic Group

This sounds like the rod

EutecTrode Xuper 2240

Applications
Low-heat-input manual electrode for the "in-situ" repair and maintenance of cast iron and for joining cast iron with steels or copper alloys. Applications include pump bodies, compressors, machine frames, casting defects, lathes, pulleys, dies, levers, gears, generators, flanges, tables and engine blocks.

Technical data
Tensile strength Rm: 370-420 N/mm 2
Hardness (as deposited): 130-170 HV30

Features and benefits
Exceptional weldability in all positions
Nodular graphite deposit resists cracking
Low-heat-input
No electrode overheating
Also suitable for contaminated surfaces

With the tractor only being a couple years old, I decided to bite the bullet. I dropped the tractor off at the dealer yesterday and will pick it up in about 3 weeks.

It sucks but I would rather not always be wondering when a welded cast iron case will break again. Best, I think, to just do it right on a $20,000 machine.

The JBweld may have worked is there was a good way to get the oil off the piece. The cracks are at the bottom of the casting and no matter how much I clean, oil just keeps seeping out.

I think you made the right choice.

Sorry to hear of your issue. I think you are going the best way with the repair in order to keep the overall value / resale value of the machine in place.

question - was the BH a 3 pt mount or sub-frame ? i have a sub-frame kioti BH on mine and i don't understand how the crack could have happened.

hope your machine comes back good as new ... and quickly...

While i think you did the right thing considering, but i probably would have disassembled and either welded it myself or had it welded.

I havent had much luck with JB or those blowtorch rods in the past. Considering the stress that this area can see it has to be welded IMHO.

You'll be more comfortable in the end.

Good warning for all of us to check our bolts, you hear about this often, bolts loosening and then doing a bunch of damage.

I've made it a habit concurrent with oil changes to crawl around under the tractor with an adjustable wrench just checking any bolt I can find. I have to be under there anyway to get the oil drain bolt out so I just scoot about checking the other bolts too. I've found a few that could use tightening but none missing on the tractor. I have lost a Cat 1 attachment pin and found the other side loose so the rule applies equally to implements.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck, but good to see your fixing it the right way. That area would drive you crazy checking it... I can say I have now added the bolt inspection to my maintenance list, thanks to you making us aware of the possible problem. It also gives me an excuse to by the new creeper I have been looking at.
