So I lose hydraulic pressure to raise my bucket whether it's empty or loaded. I seem to have pressure for my bucket tilt. I change lines at the control box and the last line I go to change, which happens to be the bucket lift line, this little square metal thing falls out. I'm pretty sure nothing came out of the other lines. What is it?

Swag (the s is for scientific)....flow restricting device, purpose of which is to slow certain functions for smoother operation.

Maybe. I've never saw one that looked like that. It would allow a LOT of flow past the straight edges.

I have no idea.

I think I figured it out right before your reply. Even though it's on the bucket lift side, it's used to slow down the bucket when I want to lower it. I'm new here, but I need controlled speed when the bucket is heavy and the that's why it's on the bucket lift side, because it returns the oil to the controller before getting returned to the reservoir. I still lost lift power but the few times I got the bucket up with dirt then lowered it, it came down fast

It is a flow restrictor.......one direction the oil is forced thru the center hole for slow cuz it covers the seat, the opposite way would be unrestricted and the oil would flow around the outside of the notches

Ditto on hyd flow restrictor. The extended edges means it will restrict flow more one direction(boom down) than boom raising up.

Good stuff. Never saw one before. :)

It probably moves a bit within a cavity so orientation is important. Bucket down the flow will push the restrictor against a 'stop' and only allow flow through the hole.

Bucket up, the flow pushes in the other direction, causes the ears to stand off, allowing the flow to both go around and through the hole.

I have heard them called Cessna discs. Not sure if this was something Cessna developed years ago or not. The ones I have seen in use are typically installed between the fitting and the valve body. Flat side either seals on the bottom of the fitting or bottom of the port in the valve. Yes orientation and valve body design are important so the disc does not get wedged in the port and also seals to restrict flow in the proper direction.

Although I agree orientation of restrictor disk is important as to which direction oil is restricted. I see no way the disk can wedge in a port or hose because the disk has a larger diameter than hose & valve port is machined to limit disk penetration. On many applications restrictor disk is fitted between hyd coupler/tip and hose
