I just hauled this piece of farm equipment out from behind my barn. I am wondering if anyone can tell me what this piece was used for. The maufactuer label reads, Stephens-Adamson MFG Co. The company was based in Aurora, IL with the research I have done all I can find is information about the company. The label also sugests that it is a Loader of some sort. It looks like it has a conveyor system on it. Any information would be helpful!

Any sort of blades/knives inside hopper?

Total wild guess since I have no idea what I'm talking about but it looks like something that would receive random hay and line it out in the field for drying as it was pulled along. ????????? Good luck. :)7

The roller on the back suggests to me a small portable feed mill. The electric motor sort of reenforces that idea. Towable to the needed location hook up the power for grinding corn or other grains for effecient feed usage.

I'd guess at a feeder system to a converbelt for something like potatoes.:confused:

It might help if the area it was from is known.

The hopper has a purpose ... something is fed into those belts, with out knives or blades it would not IMO chop, cut, grind perhaps sift or sort ... when I goggled that mfg name they seem to be famous for mining equipment ... Howerver I am stumped as to the reason for the hopper and the belts ... it must do some sort of screening ... maybe for seed?

Going on mining equipment as a clue, it could be a power hose reel or something similar. The rollers look to be rubber sheathed, so they were used on something soft. It doesn't look like the rollers could be brought very close together, but one side has a spring tension adjustment.

It could have been positioned over a mine entrance hole as a stationary windlass affair.
