Got this tool along with a lot of stuff at the auction. Any ideas out there in TBN land on what it is used for, what does it cost?

Interesting. Never seen one. I think it might be a specialty tool that just started with the Vicegrip tool. That Hex nut doesn't seem mass production. Also the finish of the odd bits.

They say:
That is a hand skiver. It's used to skive hydraulic hoses, which is when you strip off a layer of the rubber hose coating.
Basically, you'd clamp the tool onto the hose with the cutting blade facing the hose, and then rotate the tool around the hose to strip off layers.

Wonder why you would do that? Doesn't make sense.

Skiving is usually required on a four wire high pressure hydraulic hose assembly including and above 1" in diameter. Skiving exposes the outer two braids of wire so that the teeth of the hose end will bite into the braid when the hose end is properly crimped.

When I was a young man, I worked for a company that built wheel and rim forming machinery and we had a skiver that was based on a Ridgid pipe threader stationary powerhead for the big 2" hoses that I had to assemble.

The other skiving tool that we had fit into a Stanley bit brace. It had a mandrel that fit the I.D. of the hose and used a square lathe tool bit ground to the proper profile to cut the rubber jacket off.

OK, now we know what it is. I have searched the internet for 2 hours and find nothing on that specific tool. Obviously an adaptation of a Vise Grip tool. Any ideas on what something like this costs and where to get it? It looks brand new. No identifying marks on it other than Vise-Grip.
