Its a blue casting with numbers stamped in it on a 4000 3 cylinder diesel

Not sure about the numbers, but by the photos, it looks like an early vintage 4000, I would guess mid to late 60's.

I thought if the model started with a C, it was a 3000 series.
3A08C i thought was a Jan 08, 1973, C shift (nights)
The C7018 is what confuses me.

Anyway, I bid on it but dropped out when it went past $4K. It ended up going for $4400.
I don't need a second tractor but I would have sold the 2000 I just bought 5 weeks ago and kept this.

no the c will be and all X000 series fords made after 1967 or 8 i believe is the years at the beging of the model number
the serial number can begin in a A B or C depending on were it was made
and yes it is a 4000

a 4-68+ 4000 will have a model ID bedinning with D.. but ther eis no model id pictured yet.
front end is deffinately a hd FE.. and rear is the reduction style.. so yeah.. it's not a 3000 or lower..

look on left side of screen to see the model ID codes. pre 4-68 they were numbers.. after that letters.

Thanks. Yes, I was looking at the numbers on the right side. I couldn't find any trace of markings on the left where they are on my 2000. They should be in the same place right? One reason I was questioning if it was a 4000 was one side of the sheet metal I didn't see the logo with 4000 as it has on the left side (visible in the one photo). Maybe the loader had the view of the numbers blocked on the left and that's why I didn't see it. Anyway, it's gone now. I tried to get to the old ford tractor site and also to the one you provided Soundguy but limited access by my smartphone where the auction was held.
