you can also look under the hood to a foil tag.. but most of the #;s will be on the flat behind the starter. on some 65+ machines you see some #'s on the opposite side too. my 4600 has some there.. etc..

Yes, I forgot to mention, that tag was missing. Because of that and the missing decal with 4000 on the RH side, I was thinking maybe the sheet metal was off a 4000 and possibly what I was looking at was a 3000.

uh.. maybee a 3000 with a 4000 front bolster and front axle and steering box and draglink


( front ends on 3000 / 4000 are totally different )

the pic you showed was FOR SURE the hd front end of a 4000.. no radius rods.. large bolster.. etc..

Well, for me with my limited knowledge of the differences between the models it not so easy to tell. That's why I started the thread to begin with. Give me a couple months and I'll be better at telling one from another, but still no where close to your level. I'm only 4 weeks into owning one at this point and with little interest before that so I'm very new to it all.

I could tell you the differences between the various generations of old Mustangs or the original Hummer built by AM General from 1992 to 2006 but I'm just a newbie with Ford tractors, or any other make for that matter.
