Looking to buy a JD 4300 with 430 loader but it has over 1400 hrs on it. Is this too many and am I buying someone else's problems. Granted it would be nice to buy newer but sometimes it isn't in the budget. What ballpark price would be reasonable for a 2001. Thanks

Saw an ad for a 2000 with 1297 hours, 420 loader for $13900, if that helps.

That is a good number of hours. These machines come in to my shop still running strong with 3000 plus hours on them...however I see machines with 400 hrs and having problems. It really comes down to how it was used and how it was maintained. You may want to call your local dealer and ask them what they know of the tractor or the customer, as far as what kinda work does he do...construction or rental or homeowner and is he maintenance savy. You may also want to consider a 3520 that has the same HP in new tractor. Probably not that much more $$ and comes with warranty and 0% financing. Or if you don't need the 37hp look at the 3203 tractor. This has 32hp but only 800lb lift cap. on the loader...good price tractor...16995 for new one and then there is the 3320 with 300cx loader...same lift cap. as the 430 but with 32hp in a premium tractor, you can expect 20,500 new for that. Anyways...long and short it ultimetaly comes down to the opperator/owner of the tractor and how they serviced/worked it considering the hours are relativetly low. In my area we just had a 4410 with 430 loader mower and box sell for 18000 used in the open market. When talking to the mechanics on a hydrostatic trans you can expect 3000-4000 hours until you have major issues so this tractor has some life left if it has a Hydro trans and not the P. Reverser. If it has P. Reverser.....clutch work could get costly if needed. Expect 1200 to 2000 for a new clutch including labor.

There was a 4300 HST on the lot last year for 15,000. I don't know the hours on that one though. I bought mine second hand with FEL, tiller, PHD, York rake, Bush hog for 15,500. No dealer involved. About 170 hours on it. I believe my price was a good deal though. I've seen some on E Bay for fairly low prices as well.

Be carefull on the EBay Scam/Deals...I have had several customers in the past 2 years get taken on Ebay with tractor scams. If you can not sit on it or drive it and the price is way to good to be true..then guess what...its to good to be true....

To many scammers out there...watch your money when buying there.

My Kubota has 2400 + hours on it. I still consider it as new.:D Other than Battle scars. I expect to put many more hours on it. Dealer says they have one out with 10,000 HR.

I would expect the same from a John Deere.:D

You need some history on the tractor before going any further. How was it used, how was it maintained?

good luck!

Hello out there.

I am thinking of buying a 1997 JD 1070. Low hours - under 100. Comes with loader and backhoe (neither used), and roto tiller. Any thoughts on what this rig is selling for these days?

Engine wise it is just now broken in good. Like has been said by many, it depends a huge amount on how it was taken care of and operated. Almost any piece of equipment can be ragged out in just a short period of time with the wrong operator.
Something else to look at. If you are going to be doing a lot of lawn mowing, find out if it had the front axle changed.
