What is too many hours

I've got a good running and easy starting 5310 with 8,800hrs on it. I don't think 2000hrs is that much either if it looks like they took care of it.

We have a few OLD tractors on our farm with 8-9k hours on them. It boils down to how that machine was taken care of. You buy used, you take a gamble on how the previous owner treated it. My best advice is to take someone with you who knows machinery and have them look at it.

I was always told that when comparing hours to miles accumulated on a vehicle 1 hour was equal to 50 miles. So most gas engines are good for around 150,000 miles or 3000 hours. factor in the longevity of Diesels which should last 2 to 3 times as long as a gas engine and your looking at about 5000 to 6000 hours before you start seeing the evidence of engine wear. This is all hypothetial of course and depends on how well the tractor was maintined.
