Imagine being one of the people who don't quite understand this, and all of a sudden seeing this info in the script. Most of them are all about thinking "Big Brother" is watching their every move, and tend to be the paranoid type.

It amazes me that there are some people who don't stop to think with their god-given common sense when it comes to computers.
A few years ago, I came across this secretary sitting staring at the monitor just almost like concrete. I asked her what's up. She told me that someone "emailed her this camera, and it is going to take her picture." On the monitor was a picture of a small webcam looking at her. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
She showed me the email with instructions when she was ready, to just click the attachment and her photo would be taken. It took some convincing to get her to believe it was a joke or hoax email. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
And, no she wasn't a blonde!

I agree but reverse ISP shows the client and server location.

Take the original poster here IP (as shown in the pix). It states Ashford CT and much more if you just know where to look.

And yes you can route via proxy servers (anonymizer) from Taiwan, Czech Republic or Hong Kong. But you can still see the original IP address even if you are high anonymity, or not. Trouble is it will slow down bigtime and if you are on anything slower then broadband, good luck loading anything.

Test your firewall:
Go to www.grc.com and do a 'Leak Test' and 'Shields Up' test.

More then we think.. but only when they need to.

I read an article years ago.. it was part of the de-classification of government documents. A computer company wanted to sell computer products(printers,monitors,etc) to a foreign nation. The government said okay.. but we want you to add this circuitry to the components. When we had a conflict w/ this nation.. the missles were guided to the places where the computer components were being used.

Another.. BTK killer.. what do you think led the FBI to the church where the BTK killer had made a disk that he had sent to the media/police? My guess.. a computer ID is written on the media you write to.. FBI looks up who the computer was sold to.. and bingo.. they have a trail to follow.

When I read about he de-classified story I thought.. wow.. this is what they let us know.. I wonder what they don't!

I was using it cause I liked that It flashed 10 different messages at random. Could care less about the IP info. but da man says noooo.... So I'll find someth'n a lil less intrussive...

I seriously doubt it. Much more likely that the disk contained deleted church correspondence with the name and address of the church. Deleting files, as almost everyone but BTK knows, doesn't actually erase them. It just marks the space they are using on the disk as available and removes their names from the directory. If they are not subsequently written over, they are easily recoverable.
