What is wrong with middle aged people?

I've only had the occasion a couple of times, but leaving the house on the ATV or snowsled to get to work is rather fun.

I had to ride my snowmobile to work at the airport a few times back in the early 80's. It was fun. Very little airport security back then, so I could ride it around the inside of the perimeter fence. Can't do that these days, TSA and all. :laughing:

Commute is often something one has to experience before you can fully comprehend the impact.

I'm 7 minutes to work which is amazing for the SF Bay Area...

Many of our young Nurses get lured away to Stanford for pay and benefits... what should be a 25 minute commute is never and more often 75 to 90 minutes plus bridge tolls... plus parking can be an issue...

I keep in touch with some that have left and only living it do the fully comprehend the toll it takes... just like those moving inland to Stockton, Tracy, etc...

Some really do achieve a modicum of wisdom with age...

Oh… some think they could game the system by moving closer to work... a 600k home here is double there... and 600k is on the low side... just for prospective.

Sometimes it seems so being on call 24/7

I lost my 30 year job last year. Got a job farther away. The commute is much longer.

It used to be 7 minutes, now it's 11! :laughing:

I hired a guy that was proficient at CAD to build be a "Flip Screen Bucket". He could run the program, but was apparently was quite incapable of designing something mechanical. It takes more than training, I guess.

I would say it takes experience, intuition, interest and mechanical aptitude. The CAD ability is just the final ingredient. Maybe, the easy part.

My step brother is that way with computer programming. He qualified for a free ride to school because of his test scores. Then lost his scholarship the first semester. One of the required courses was an advanced physics class. He could spout theory from a book all day long. But lacked the mechanical ability to build the working model to back up what he was preaching.
